Rules are rules; it really would have been better to field our homegrown (youth) players more often last season to rack up the required slots/points—but unfortunately, for whatever reasons , we didn’t do that.

exactly this. we would be hard-pressed to find a better midifled player on the market than an engaged and physically fit macca and what he brings. macca is 27 and grav 24. these two won us the PL two years ago and all of a sudden are shit. folks need to chill and let AI work

Blame Slot for his allergy in using academy players more often, Klopp wasn’t afraid to do so.

From another POV, the problem is Wirtz. Macca was at his best when he played at Thiago’s position, which clashed with Wirtz when he arrived - Slot had to drop Macca deep and his performance got much worse. At the same time, Wirtz did not have any successes whatsoever at breaking low blocks. He also posed absolute zero threats to us when we faced Leverkusen under Alonso.
So, we can actually ditch Wirtz since he clearly failed his purpose and return Macca to the advanced LCM position. And no, don’t play Wirtz off the left. Play a real winger at the wing, please.
Also, Wharton is a much better passer than our midfield. In fact, he is the best passer in the League last season.

but also remember klopp played him deeper as well. it looks like AI favors the 2 pivot in midfield. that will either be ryan and macca, or ryan with nyoni, and a more advanced dom, macca or wirtz. all of a sudden we not that short in the midfield positions. i actually liked wirtz coming in from the left when playing for germany. he was good

I think in particular he, Isak and (assuming he arrives) Barcola will play off each other very well.

He and Ekitike were building a really promising partnership too. Once Ekitike went down though he had nothing to pass to.

folks always bitch and complain about what we dont have and what we need, but if we sign barcola and get hugo back, we will have the best attacking frontline in the league

The only other established senior player on the pitch at that point is Szoboslai so who are you expecting to have a go at him, the teenager from Senegal who arrived two weeks ago?
This place is in such an odd mood right now. We’ve got people making up their own theories about why a player is having an animated conversation. People moaning about players smiling too much in photos. People moaning about the haircut of a lad we haven’t even bought. People moaning about a players weight even though he’s not played for a year. People moaning that Hughes has done a shit job but also that he’s moving on to a new job by looks of things. Everyone seems to hate the supposed new investors despite the relatively small stake they may or may not buy.
And then there’s moaning about the lack of homegrown players whilst slagging off the homegrown lads we do have. And then others are annoyed Slot didn’t use those homegrown lads enough and now that means we have to send a teenager out on loan because he can’t get a work permit.
I thought Slot getting the boot and Iraola coming in would bring a bit of renewed optimism but it’s just shifted the legitimate moaning about performances onto petty little things.

He should be on a weight loss program immediately followed by a upper body conditioning before he can even be in the squad. The season starts in less than a month and he comes in like that?
