Was there a rule change so that clubs could get work permits for a few players that would not otherwise qualify for them. Did we use our allowance, or did I imagine the whole thing?

Yeah, but thanks to Slot not using our young players enough, we lost all but one of those spots for the coming season, which was given to Ndiaye (apparently it was decided before Ndukwe officially joined up with the club).

Yes but the first half was even better than in Chicago but the score was the same .

Totally agree with Souey. Passing beats running, if you do it well. I do like a midfielder than can occasionally break the lines with a run like Modric could, but it’s nothing without the passing game that Modric also had.

I actually never thought Gerrard was that good in the CM playmaker role because I think he’s too Hollywood and not somebody who works it forward through midfield . He doesn’t have that mindset or patience. It just kinda worked because of his all rounded abilities

For me he was best in an advanced position doing things in the final third. Phenomenal of course

didnt Souness sign Paul Stewart for big money (relative to the year) to play midfield for us?

plus Istvan Kozma…

He’s got much more stamina than Wharton.

The issue here, and against Leeds, is that our second string offer very little threat going forward. Playing Chiesa as 9 is just a waste of time.

Because we have nothing, teams can just pushing forward with worrying that they are leaving the back door open.

didnt see the game, but judging on my many years of observing pre seasons, judging anyplayer after 7/8 changes for a second half runout in a pre season game is a bit …meh…

all a player can do in those moments is execute his/her own fitness and technique as good as possible.

first half phase of the game is for team cohesion, second phase is for player rotation.

Chiesa might very well turn out to be the Slot version of himself this season, i think he will struggle…but i dont think its fair to say becuase he was playing up front Monaco felt the tactical freedom to push forward…didnt watch the game though, so can be proven wrong…

Two points. Ndukwe can go on loan to a top European league, play just one game and qualify for a work permit allowing him to return to Livferpool in January.

Secondly, does anyone agree that putting in Stef and Abe for the last minutes instead of Chiesa and McConnell would have been more interesting. I understand he’s only 10 days back into full training but Stef’s composure and passing range was just what we needed at that point.

yeah its tough not to want to see what those two players can do

That’s all well and good, but first you have to find a club willing to agree to a deal like that; I honestly can’t even picture which top club would just take him on temporarily, guarantee him playing time, and then send him straight back. Still, given how he performed today, I imagine there should be some inquiries. My concern, to be honest, is the playing time.

As a small example of how little pre-season matters… Celtic fans were calling their new signing Kasper Hogh shit for his pre-season performances and Rangers fans were gleefully laughing at them wasting money on him.

Anyway he just scored a hat-trick in their first game of the season.
