Edit
The worrying parts here are that RW is severely dependent on Salah with Elliott being so out of depth even at this level, CBs are really down to just our first choices now,Gakpo looks very one dimensional, Szoboszlai is not convincing at CM, Nunez needs a reset tbh, Bradley looks goosed…
Bright sparks so far : Wirtz looks good, Frimpong is best at RB, Rio gonna take Gakpo’s place if Gakpo doesn’t buck up, Ekiteke looks confident, Salah is very sharp.
We need CBs very urgently and do some out-goings to raise some funds soon-ish…
I’m hearing a Michael Nesmith song. Fly down to Rio? More like flying like Rio.
Florian Wirtz has won 1,000,000 Japanese Yen for being named man of the match.
How much is that in real money?![]()

5 pound xxx
Naaa, I just googled it … Not bad 5848€
No, it’s five grand.
I just missed a few zeros x
I feel like the conversation just moved on from “will Rio play this season?” to “How much will Rio play this season?”
Can’t remember when a prospect last looked this good at 16/17… Sterling?
Wow we won a trophy?
A nice little run-out for the lads. Very good second half, a good reaction from the squad, and especially from the youngsters. Troy and Rio scored little peaches, and all the incoming players did well. Also good to see Wirtz getting his first goal.
Thought Bradley was our best player in the half he played vs Preston in our first pre-season game and thought Frimpong looked ok but not as good as Bradley that day. Today, Frimpong looked better than Bradley. I imagine those two will battle hard for starting games and the competition will make both of them better.
Disagree on Szobo, thought he played well enough today, but Gravenberch was pretty awful. (Not just the long throws). Both are class players though and they’ll have better days.
Definitely need a center back in.
Also, shout out to Curtis Jones who has played really well in all of our preseason games so far. He looks sharp.
We can buy Isak.
…’s boots…and maybe socks
Maybe we use the winning money to buy Stoke Citys throw in coach
Regarding Trey and Rio. Only time will tell if they follow the path of Trent, even Jones. We’ve had preseason performances from the likes of Koumetio, Wilson (wouldn’t have minded him being a bench option but probably not any more), regular season flashes from Bajcetic. But kids rarely turn into solid first teamers, let alone genuine starters. Definitely on the fringes of the first team and absolutely nailed on for both domestic cups. But our recruitment plans should remain the same (which I’m sure they will be).
