Get away from Virgil !!!

Not too bothered with that looked more sharp than previous games and we made far more changes than they did.

3-4 final score.

Completely against the flow of the game. At half-time, we should already have been out of sight, and the second half should have been a mauling with a bit more clinical finishing. Hertha on the other hand enjoyed a maximum of efficiency and luck.

Oh well done Hertha, the most important thing anyway is the work-out for everyone, building up match fitness, and no-one injuring himself.

And it was a good match to look at! :grinning: :+1:t2:

Honestly don’t get why anyone is bothered about the result or even the performance.

I’m bothered about the performance because it’s the rare chance that I get to watch some of the up-and-coming youth players. I live otherwise mostly on the scraps of whatever @Sweeting posts about them.

I’m less keen on how well they do individually but how well they fit into the team as a whole, whether they look out of place in general, or if they can keep up and play the roles they’re meant to.

I know it’s only preseason but not great to concede 4 goals, hopefully I’ll be able to watch hilights of the game.

3 different centre back pairings through the game, with a total of 13 substitutions made. Don’t think we can read much into the 4 conceded against a Hertha side that are a couple of weeks ahead in terms of pre season

Getting ready for the same season like last year with 3 defensive partnerships :kissing_heart:

That is what is great about this game. We can all have our own opinions. Personally I thought Kostas did o.k. and will be a decent back up for Robbo. Not convinced about Minamino though. IMO Elliot and Gordon both look to have a decent future. A couple of more experienced players were not quite so hot but it is early days yet. Give it a couple of weeks and things could look very different.

Yeah I don’t mind Kostas. Hes a backup. Don’t see him ever overtaking Robbo but if he’s fine being on the bench and playing the odd time let it be.

Minamino. Ehhhhhh I’m not sure. I know it’s pre season, I know it’s very quick judgment, I know he scored but, I’m not seeing it. Never have really. We have quiet a few attackers and with Ox being looked at as a striker then maybe we should move on. I don’t see him being here next season so why drag it out cause I don’t see him playing much of a part this season either. Hope I’m wrong but feel I’m right.

Funny thing is Tsimikas is probably the best LB we’ve had (other than Robbo) since Aurelio and Riise. Shows how much we’ve progressed.

Yes, this. Some nice stuff at times, the players likely in contention for a starting spot vs Norwich look pretty sharp. And a couple of youngsters catching some attention as well. Good game to watch.

Gibson T Bird. Excellent. :muscle:

There’s something really funny about Jovetić literally always scoring against Liverpool (and it’s often a brace, no less), regardless of the type of game, state of players, injuries… Seeing him breeze past Van Dijk like that concerns me, perhaps we should be even more cautious about his and Gomez’ return. No wonder Klopp is taking his time when it comes to their recovery.

Its going to take a while for VVD and Gomez to get back to speed. It might be Philips and Konate starting the season which would not be the worst combination. But hopefully VVD, Gomez and Matip gets back to full match fitness soon and cannot wait for season proper to start.

Surely Matip is ahead of Phillips in the pecking order? My take is that it will be a Matip/Konaté combo at center back when the season starts (if fit), with Gomez and VVD gradually phased in during the first couple of months.
