Liverpool FC V Real Madrid - 8pm (CL 27/11/2024)

The stars are aligning once more.

What will be an interesting subplot is how Konate takes care of Mbappe. He captained France in their last game while Mbappe is persona non grata atm.

I do not share the views about this game’s insignificance. It’s not the final or a knock out game, but it still matters.

  1. We still haven’t secured mathematically qualification as a top 8.
  2. It’s them at Anfield and we owe them big time.
  3. We need to build up momentum after a largely disjointed and sloppy performance.
  4. A win might push them closer to elimination, however unlikely. I wouldn’t want to face them further down the road.

  1. Arne only ever loses to Forest. Once.

Damn, now it’s Trent vs Vini on the injury list, poor Trent can’t catch a break.

Obviously finalising his move to us, that’s why…

Modric is still playing football. He’s an inspiration to the @cynicaloldgits of this world.

Their leaving squad will be much thinner after we’re through with them Wednesday night.

Wow they are running out of options…who would replace Ancelotti if he gets injured?

Modric. Similar age.

Could still be something like Camavinga (was brilliant as #6 last time at Anfield), Modric and Bellingham in midfield. Valverde, Diaz and Mbappe up top. We’ll see if they use Valverde at RB or RW. If it’s the latter, then Guler might come in.

Would be good to beat them, not only in terms of being closer to qualify, but after a while (or almost an era) of multiple defeats against them.

Winning is a good habit.
I really doubt Slot will weaken the team significantly and treat this as a dead rubber.
Expect a strong eleven and a feel good factor going into Sunday.

If Valverde could prove himself as a very good RB… they would have no need for TAA and leave him with us - Valverde has got some engine on him… he could motor up and down that wing for the full 90mins no problem

No way anyone at the club would think of it as this. Sure we may rotate a couple like Robbo and/or another defender but make no mistake this is probably our biggest (not necessarily most important, mind) game of the season to date.

I was there. What a start it was.

Going again tomorow…the same start would be nice, but the same ending would be disappointing.

News of Vini Jr is a positive for us, but at the same time it appears the introduction of Mbappe has blunted them, forcing Belli gham to play differently and Vini and Mbappe both wanting to play off the same wing. This injury could result in a more balanced team.

Don’t think he’d be a long term RB solution, he’s one of the world’s best box to box midfielders. Would be a waste.

And yeah, they might even shift the structure to more of a 4-4-2 tomorrow and have Mbappe more in that left side channel. Konate will hopefully be able to cope well against him, but it’s also about blocking supply. Maybe also use offside traps, which Barca did brilliantly.

In the end, could well be something asymetrical between a 4-3-3 and 4-4-2, in the case without Vini, allowing Mbappe that extra bit of freedom he wants.
