Billy Koumetio scored a spectacular goal in Liverpool U21s’ 4-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday evening.

The centre-half, who returned to the club earlier this week following a loan at Austria Vienna, opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the contest in Kirkby with an effort from his own half.

Luke Chambers then made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Mateusz Musialowski was fouled, before Koumetio got his second goal of the night prior to half-time.

Oludare Olufunwa added the Reds’ fourth in the 62nd minute, as the visitors netted a pair of consolation goals late on.

Striker Oakley Cannonier also marked his welcome return from injury by playing the final half an hour, with head coach Barry Lewtas also handing first appearances at U21 level for U16 players Kieran Morrison, Lucas Pitt and Afolami Onanuga.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com post-match, Lewtas said: "It was a great night for us.

"First half, it probably looked the way we wanted it to look and we had a lot of players who played in different positions. But to approach the game in the manner which we did and take full control, I was really pleased.

"We played with the same intensity in the second half and certainly played the game in their half.

“As the game went on, we conceded two late goals but we had made quite a lot of changes and it doesn’t reflect away from how well the boys did tonight.”

On Koumetio’s opener, he added: "It was unbelievable!

"It was good technique, first of all, the way he received the ball and then he spotted their goalkeeper off his line and he’s put it away. Pretty amazing really.

"It was great to see Oludare get his first goal for us and he was excellent. He has done ever so well. He picked up an unfortunate injury and he played out of position tonight at right-back but I thought he was excellent. I’m really pleased for him because he has worked ever so hard.

“It was great to give Oakley some minutes as well and great to see him back. Hopefully he can push on now for us.”

Liverpool U21s: Davies, Olufunwa, Jonas, Quansah (Pitt, 80), Koumetio, Corness (Cannonier, 60), Cain, Stephenson (Morrison 65), Musialowski (Onanuga, 80), Norris, Chambers.

Were they playing the Liverpool first team or something? Pressing non existent.

Nonetheless it’s a brilliant technique and execution…

I feel his frustration about the Vienna loan with how hard he kicked that.

Mrs C had the Saints-City game on last night. I heard the commentator/pundit criticising the City keeper for being chipped from nowhere near as far out.

Oh heck…is it keep out of the way day today…

U18s currently 1-1 at half time vs Everton. 15 year old Kazeem Ahmed with Liverpool’s goal.

Really didn’t expect so many U16 players and first year scholar to be getting regular game time but as we speak Liverpool have Lucas Pitt, Fola Onanuga, Kieran Morrison and Kazeem Ahmed starting (all schoolboys) and first year scholars Wellity Lucky, Francis Gyimah, Cody Pennington, Elijah Gift and Ranel Young (1st year scholars).

Is this because of injuries or have we just decided to give them all a fighting chance?

Well, with Lucky and Gift in your side, how can you lose?

I’m just waiting for Lucky to score…

A lot of lads have been moved up already. Bajcetic, Clark and Doak regularly being in the first team squad has created a trickle down of players getting promoted early.

2-2 result.

Jake Cain has left on a permanent deal to Swindon Town

Glad he got a good move, did really well at the end of his Newport loan last season so Swindon is a great level for him.

We are apparently trying to sign Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile from Preston. 16 year old Brazilian born forward, scored five times in a 6-1 FA Youth Cup win over Rotherham.

Don’t know too much else about him, it’s hard to get info on youth football outside of the Premier League U18 and U21 leagues (which Preston are not in).

Jakub Ojrzynski has been recalled from his loan spell with Radomiak Radom. The 19-year-old goalkeeper will return to Liverpool from Poland after three appearances in all competitions for the Ekstraklasa outfit this season.

They signed Ojrzynski, a Polish U21 international, and then signed the goalkeeper that keeps him out of the Polish U21 team a week later.
