Only 1 teenager in the starting line up for Sunderland. By comparison, Leeds have 8 teenagers in their team.
Really don’t understand the logic behind what Sunderland are doing. They were the worst team, by far, in U23 football last season despite having one of the older squads. This year they are once again one of the older squads and are once again absolutely terrible.
This entire squad shouldn’t be here. They should be either in the first team, out on loan or be sold/released. How a club with the catchment area of Sunderland, and relatively little competition for local talent, struggles so much to get anyone through their system into a League One club that is being forced to massively reduce costs is an absolute travesty. Years and years of rot and mismanagement.
With the size of that club, the catchment area and training facilities they have Sunderland should be a solid mid-table PL2 Division 1 squad capable of sending 1 player into the first team every season, even if they didn’t sign anyone from other clubs. Especially when they’re a League One club.
In fact I’d probably say that the over-reliance on signing players released by the likes of ourselves, Chelsea and Tottenham is really holding some of these academy systems back.
First things first for them is clear out this entire team. Brandon Taylor maybe has the quality for a first team role so promote him and keep him away from these fixtures. Send Jack Diamond out on loan and fuck everyone else off, they’re absolute shite and I’d be surprised if any of them play 100 games in EFL football. Promote the U18 squad to U23 level and let that trickle down the ranks. Let the cream rise to the top.

Full-time and #LFC U21 lose 3-2 at Tranmere in the EFL Trophy thanks to Payne’s 90th-minute goal. Cain’s super free-kick was wiped out by a Vaughan double - the second clearly offside - before Longstaff equalised. Very tough on the young Reds, who were easily the better team . Ian Doyle.
