u21 highlights up on LFCTV from their 3-2 defeat to Tranmere.

Created loads of chances and a bit unlucky with the Tranmere goals. Their second highlights just how poor the officiating can be at that level, Woodburn got booted up into the air and then James Vaughan was about 3 yards offside.

Sepp VDB looked poor, unfortunately, but Cain and Clarkson as influential as ever. Cain missed a sitter but scored another free kick from 25-30 yards out, just as he did against Derby.

Seen them mentioned with a lot of hope and promise a fair bit. Was wondering what their level could be? Think with the ages of Henderson, Thiago, Wijnaldum and Milner (plus contract lengths) I think they may all filter off within the next 5 years. Possibly along with Ox and/or Keita as Ox in particular is looking uncertain of having a long stay with us as injuries keep disrupting their time here. There could well be a lot of room opening up for younger players to patiently play their way into contention but it would only be good for us if they are talented enough to do it and not just making up the numbers. Would be interested in yours and @Sweeting thoughts on these two? Or Any other young CMs at the academy.

If I remember well, Jake Cain is left-footed, right? Plays either as a LCM or #10 if needed?

Also, what’s up with Joe Hardy?

I think they will ultimately prove to lack the athleticism to play in our midfield but they’re both talented and should have chances to be Championship players at least.

Hardy is injured but should be back in the next week or two.

It’s a bit frustrating that neither side has even published their line up. In this day and age that should be a minimum expectation for the highest level of U18 football in the country.

Again ? This kid just cannot stop scoring. How many hat tricks now this season.

Anyone got a stream or is it just audio?

I think Balagizi is a good prospect. Could be where Jones is in 2-3 years

Two hat tricks in 3 games.

FT: Blackburn U18s 0-3 LFC U18s - a game played in incessant heavy rain but lit up by another hat-trick from Layton Stewart. Fine team display with whole back four excellent and Max Woltman more than deserving a goal after hitting post twice. Debut as sub up front for Ethan Ennis. Andy Kelly.

How old is he? We might need an attacking centre mid around then.

It’s really tough to say. The safe money is on them not being here long term just because of how high our level is, you have to be really special to break into our side.

We could compare them to others players that have come through - Are they as good as Jones? No, that’s clear.

Clarkson is a bit similar to Chirivella and Brannagan - IMO, he is better than both were for the u23s. They were both good players but Clarkson affects the game more for me, he does more technically difficult things and doesn’t keep it as safe as those two did at times. Clarkson is less content to just keep things neat and tidy all the time.

Cain - maybe we could compare with Harry Wilson, even if they are slightly different. Far too early to say Cain is better than Wilson at this level but he might get there. He’s a goal threat like Wilson was, is also a great set piece taker and has a better range of passing. We’ll see about that one though, Wilson was excellent at this level too.

There’s a number of good midfield prospects in the u18s but it’s too early to talk about them in terms of playing for the first team yet.

Regarding Stewart and hat tricks last game last season he scored a hat trick, so in last 4 games he hit 3 hat tricks. That is fucking unbelievable.
