Our youth teams seem to be really struggling atm?
They’ve been drawn against Zilina away and will face the winner of Legia Warsaw v Ajax.
"Danns is not fit enough, he is not even training. He is one of the players that got a stress fracture because he was young and was a bit over-trained.
“That is why we are so careful with Rio Ngumoha - that he is two days a week off the pitch if that is possible, (and we) do not have that same situation with him, but Jayden is definitely not available in the short term.”
Quite interesting quotes from Slot. I’ve had the feeling for quite a while that our youngsters were quite susceptible to long-term injuries - though I don’t know if this is the case at other clubs.
I don’t have data from other clubs, but I would guess that’s just a factor of kids growing, their bodies changing (happens even after they’re past the young players point) and perhaps the feeling that the grass is greener elsewhere.
If it was something down to us more than it should be or doing something wrong, over a longer period of time, then we would probably know about it or better to say, people would bloody lose their jobs.
We have had a number of our most promising youngsters have their careers derailed by injuries before they took off (most recently Danns and Bajcetic).
Don’t have the medical knowledge and wouldn’t know anything about Rio’s health either, but if this is the reason and the club are also controlling training then I’m ok.
But then what the heck are we doing with squad planning? Where is the depth? If it is about building the squad up over multiple windows I would at least like to see more youth transfers (the type we saw this window with young CBs).
We don’t even have many players in our reserves who can step up in the case of injuries.
U18s beat Derby 4-2 - 15 year old Joshua Abe scored twice meaning he now has 5 goals and 2 assists in his first 4 appearances at U18 level.
Tyler Martin has been on trial at Stoke and scored against Manchester City U21s - he’s now scored in both of his appearances for them.
Read yesterday that Abe has been training with the 1st team.
Must be one to watch
14 year old Luca Eden assisted one of those goals also so he has 1 goal and 1 assist in about 70minutes to start his U18 career. Some good players coming through it looks like.
Their goalkeeper stopped a drubbing with some great saves
Joshua Abe
