Liverpool Youth Teams Thread

No one wants to be a full-back originally in the first place. They’re failed CBs, CMs, or wingers :joy:

In the past no, but FB in todays game is a lot more involved.

Watched a Peter Crouch podcast with Steve Sidwell, who I like has a good sense of humour, said he was doing a kids coaching holiday and in the game at the end he said no one wanted to be a CF, it was easier to find a keeper.

When I was young everyone wanted to score!

How junior are you talking because hes been a defender from U18s up

Yeah, but he did play in midfield at the end of a pre season friendly, so he has experience

Conor Coady is working with the U21s in a bit of a hybrid coach/player situation as he tries to work out his next full time move.

That likely reflects not just an increased emphasis on possession in youth coaching, but some degree of it going wrong such that playing up top is boring because the ball rarely gets to you.

That sounds good to me, he has potential to be quality in some sort of role with the club post-playing.

You are seeing it during games at the moment i,e Isak and Haaland.

I never wanted to be a forward, midfield is the place to be, involved all the time!

Young Hadyn is a talent. Very intelligent players, reads the game well and is a very creative and accurate passer. Moves well and finds space too. Just needs to fill out a little maybe.

Not sure about that Oliver Connor picture

I noticed that too, not sure how flashscore messed that up Oli O’Connor has been in our youth squads for a good couple of years now!

We’re 2-0 up at half-time. Ndiaye headed in from a corner then Sonni-Lambie scored after Atletico got so invested in fouling our lads, hacking two of us down cynically, that they forgot to mark Lambie who bent it in at the far post.

Luca becomes our youngest ever player in this competition with this appearance. It’s a bit of a fake record (youngest EVER) given how new the competition is, but it was a record held by Trent, Rio, and Abe. At minimum it shows a recent trend of having talents in the system able to play WAY above their age level even in the biggest games.

Disgusting behaviour by the AM coaching staff trying to get our kids booked and pressurising a dreadful ref for decisions. Ref was awful and the foul count was 23-5 in their favour which was ridiculous. Will Wright was mauled all over the place and got not one decision. 2-2 draw and young Farkas could have won it with virtually the last kick but it hit the post. The lads were 2-0 up but did that ‘control the game’ thing which never EVER works.

In the build up to our second goal alone there were two challenges that should have been bookings - Lambie played on and scored but no indication the referee was even tempted to give a foul.

Pretty sure that’s what we’ve been trying to do since the mid-2000s, I think?

Nice praise from Iraola for Koumas.

Basically that he told the club already in the first week of pre-season that he wants him here for the whole of the season. That he covers all 4 attacking positions.

He will be 21 in a few days and his contract is up to 2029. Might earn a new one if he does well this season and long term after this season, we’ll see what happens.
