Balagzi picks up a few knocks for a fella his age. Missed a few opportunities already due to it, hopefully doesn’t cost him in the future.

Very young Liverpool team vs Man City today in the PL Cup

Mrozek
Davidson Lucky Chambers Scanlon
Mabaya Bajcetic Laffey
Frauendorf Cannonier Pilling

Subs: Davies; Kelly, Koumas, Figueroa, Pennington

Lost 2-0.

Man City played great stuff. We could have/should have scored a few to make it interesting. Individual mistakes cost us for the goals which is common at this age. Young team out and a great learning experience for those u-16s, so not all is lost

Liverpool U23s returned to winning ways with a resounding 3-0 win over Leicester City amid snowy conditions at the Academy on Sunday.

Early goals by Max Woltman and Conor Bradley, along with a last-minute strike by Jack Bearne, ensured Barry Lewtas’ side bounced back from consecutive defeats in Premier League 2 in fine style.

The young Reds were two up inside the first 18 minutes.

A lovely move involving Owen Beck and Kaide Gordon ended with Bradley providing a fine cross for Woltman to finish clinically to earn them the lead, before another delivery from Bradley looped over Leicester goalkeeper Brad Young and into the net.

A dominant first-half performance also featured two chances for Gordon, who was twice denied by Young, with Morgan Boyes also seeing a header cleared off the line.

The second period was a more sedate affair, but Bearne – who replaced Gordon just before the hour mark – made it 3-0 at the end as he collected a superb pass from James Norris before finishing well.

Liverpool U23s: Pitaluga, Bradley, Quansah, Boyes, Beck, Clayton, Morton, Dixon-Bonner, Norris, Gordon (Bearne, 58), Woltman.

Unused substitutes: Davies, Koumetio, Corness, Bearne, Musialowski.

Liverpool Under 18 V Newcastle,

Davies, Mabaya, Chambers, Bajcetic, Scanlon, McConnell, McLaughlin, Miles,Frauendorf , Pilling , Cannonier , Clark.

Subs,

Laffey, Mrozek, Koumas, Davidson, Lucky.

Liverpool 2-1 latest , Cannonier and Chambers penalty.
Edit Cannonier scored another to make it 3-1.

Oakley Cannonier made it 14 league goals for the season as a second-half double at Kirkby helped Liverpool U18s produce a fine comeback to beat Newcastle United 3-1.

Captain Luke Chambers also converted a penalty as the Reds fought back from a half-time deficit amid horrendous weather conditions.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side dominated the second period and deserve plenty of credit for rolling their sleeves up and changing the destiny of a game which could easily have slipped away from them.

Emotions were high and the hosts finished with 10 players, with Bobby Clark sent off near full-time for a second yellow card against his former team.
Playing with the gale behind them in the first half, it was the visitors who offered the first threat, a cross from the left met on the half-volley by James Huntley but well tipped over by Harvey Davies.
The response was almost immediate and Cannonier had the ball in the net for the first time a couple of minutes later, but the pass from Chambers had caught him just offside.
Ten minutes in and slack defending on the Liverpool right really should have brought the first goal, though Kyle Crossley fired his low shot past the far post from a narrow angle.
If that was close, it wasn’t long before the visitors came even closer to breaking the deadlock.
A corner from the left was met by an unmarked Ciaran Thompson and the centre-back rattled the crossbar with his header.
At their next corner Newcastle did make their strong start pay off. This time Davies was able to punch the set-piece out to the edge of the box but when the ball was hooked back in, the unmarked Michael Ndiweni swivelled well to turn it home with 26 minutes gone.
It was just past the half-hour mark when the Reds finally worked Newcastle ‘keeper Max Thompson, a superb low shot from James McConnell producing a fine save at full stretch.
The stopper was needed again to tip over a deflected effort from Stefan Bajcetic a minute later, with the Reds ending the half on top.
They almost made the most of their own corner just before the break, Pilling’s delivery headed back across goal by Bajcetic before Melkamu Frauendorf nodded just over.
The second half was only seconds old when the Reds had a great chance to level, but Cannonier’s effort was too close to Thompson when he had only the ‘keeper to beat.
Bajcetic was the next to force Thompson into a fine save, a skimming effort from a full 30 yards just tipped around the post.
Clark would have been keen to impress against his former club and came within a whisker of an equaliser midway through the half. He lined up a free-kick from the edge of the box and a fine strike somehow went just the wrong side of the post.
With 20 minutes left, the Reds grabbed a deserved equaliser as Cannonier latched onto a ball and stretched to fire home from the edge of the box.
Seven minutes later and the comeback was fully on. Clark was fouled in the box and captain Chambers stepped up to fire his penalty high into the net to put the Reds ahead.
Bajcetic, very influential in the turnaround, brought another save from Thompson, before Cannonier made the game safe with five minutes left.
The Reds broke from a Newcastle corner. Frauendorf cut in from his wing to feed Cannonier, who bluffed a turn back before shooting on goal and finding the far post.
Liverpool U18s: Davies, Mabaya, Scanlon, Miles, Chambers, McConnell (Davidson, 65), Bajcetic, Clark, Frauendorf, Pilling, Cannonier
Unused substitutes: Laffey, Mrozek, Koumas, Lucky.

How highly is this Mabaya guy rated? Made an eye catching run earlier today from his own box all the way to the Milan one at ridiculous speed.

Norris and Woltman made the bench against AC Milan tonight. Alongside the usual youth lads.

Mateusz Musialowski scored a hat-trick as Liverpool U18s began their journey in the FA Youth Cup by beating Fleetwood Town 4-0 at the Academy on Saturday evening.
Luke Chambers’ opener from the penalty spot was followed up by a pair of Musialowski finishes in the first half, giving the young Reds a three-goal lead at half-time in the third-round clash.
The Polish forward then completed his treble with a deflected free-kick in the 68th minute to secure a spot in the next stage of the prestigious competition for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side.
An open start to the game presented a big chance for both teams in the first quarter of an hour.
Covy Smith hit the post for Fleetwood from inside the penalty area following Joseph Hunter’s cut-back near the touchline.
At the other end, Kaide Gordon hit a lovely reverse pass to play Oakley Cannonier through on goal, though Connor Eastham in the visitors’ net was quick off his line to deny the No.9.
But the Reds found their footing and took charge.
In minute 26 they were awarded a spot-kick when Gordon was fouled inside the box by Oliver Leggett. Chambers, captain for the evening, took responsibility from 12 yards out and sent the 'keeper the wrong way.
Fleetwood did have a chance to equalise but Billy Jones was off target with his shot, having latched on to a loose header back from Chambers.
Liverpool took advantage of the let-off. A heavy spell of pressure ended with Musialowski driving into the box, before he sent the ball into the far corner of the net with the calmest of finishes.
The No.11 grabbed his second in first-half stoppage time. The Reds dispossessed their opponents from a short goal-kick and the ball made its way to Musialowski, who made no mistake in front of goal again.
The visitors went more attacking after half-time but Bridge-Wilkinson’s charges continued to create plenty of opportunities.
And the scoring was completed when Musialowski netted with a free-kick – won by himself, with his quick feet drawing a foul.
His effort towards goal from the left, around 20 yards out, took a deflection off the Fleetwood wall – wrong-footing the 'keeper – and went in following a touch from the post.

Liverpool U18s: Davies, Davidson, Bajcetic, Chambers, Miles, Mabaya, Frauendorf, (McConnell, 45) Pilling, Gordon, Musialowski, Cannonier.

Unused substitutes: Mrozek, Scanlon, Lucky, Laffey, Danns.

Reliable journalist, @tombogert, reports that 17-year-old Toronto FC winger Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty will train with Liverpool.

  • So far has played primarily on the right. Has also played as a right-back
  • Part of the The Guardian’s 2021 Next Gen piece.
  • Youngest to sign a professional contract with Toronto at 15. To debut for Toronto. To receive a call-up for Canada.

He has just spent time training with Arsenal U18s so, you know, nothing concrete yet and exploring options clearly.

The director of scouting operations at Toronto, Jack Dodd, is a former Liverpool academy scout of four years, I believe.
