Liverpool Youth Teams Thread

He’ll be 25 this month, f*ck me. Was out on 7 loans.

I know the club can profit from having a bunch of players out on loans every year like stocks, but I can’t wait when they limit those numbers this and next year.

What even happened to him. Like how can you stay at a club at 25 while not playing a game really? Did we give him contract at 22 while I presume he wasn’t even playing well on loan.

We probably wanted to protect a certain value, believed he could finally have a good full season somewhere and then get a fee.

This summer you can really feel that the first team squad is finally almost fully cleaned from bits and pieces that dragged on for ages.

Yes plenty of big decisions being made this summer anyways.

Hopefully we can be more competitive now without facing teams with the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Paul McShane

They’ll still be allowed to do that, it just lowers the age of eligible players. There will still be a number of overage players allowed.

We finished above all the sides who regularly use overage players anyway.

Not saying he’ll be a regularly used player at first team level but I think James Balagizi is a player to really keep an eye on next season. Played nearly 900 minutes for the U23s while still qualified for the U18s, he’ll expect to be a key player in the U23 midfield and I could easily see him getting first team minutes.

Which Liverpool player past or present would you compare him to in terms of style, position etc?

I don’t know that I have a direct comparison for him. He’s about 6’3" at 18 years old, strong as an ox l, but doesn’t rely on his physique. His close control is great, silky touches and plays more than a small attacking midfielder than a hulking battering ram.

So maybe comparison wise I’d say some sort of cross between Firmino and Benayoun with a bit of extra size? There’s not a perfect one in my mind.

Conor Bradley heading to Bolton on loan apparently.

Yeah, I’ve always wondered if he should try to fit his play style into one of the more conventional boxes - either as a winger whos also creative or as a box-box midfielder. But having seen him a few times neither seem a natural fit for him and in trying to fit into the mould he’d perhaps lose what makes him good.

Be interesting to see how he grows up.

I reckon we could see Sepp go abroad this season. Maybe back to Holland? Can’t see him getting a prem move at centre half tbh.

Michael Ngoo?

Joking. :joy:

Definitely not as clumsy as Michael Ngoo!

Hope can force his way into the first team.

Imagine a midfield of Fab, Thiago and Spearing

So you clearly never actually saw him play for us then…

Seems a nice move though and hope he has something to offer as a coach for the younger players.

He was an extremely limited player who gave his all every time he played and was a better player than his ability because of it. We won an FA Cup semi-final against Everton with him starting in central midfield. He deserves a little more respect than he’s getting on here.

Spearing and Lucas formed a pretty good partnership when Kenny first took over. They might have been limited players but they gave their all and we played some good football.

That Spearing thread is a bit of a shitshow tbh, some embarrassing stuff in there.
