2-1 isn’t bad for the U21s, taken some pastings in that.

Few of the lads loaned out today. Check loan thread if interested

Interesting, I think he’s likely a training squad goalkeeper rather than a real first team prospect.

Ones to Watch 2022/2023

Was going to do a write up on all these players but about half my list go nuked in the last week as so many players went out on loan and I lost interest in doing it - if you have specific questions about players just ask and I shall answer!

  1. These are players that have have not been loaned out yet - idea is trying to find players who can contribute this season.
  2. All selections are U21 eligible which means they are younger than 21 years on January 1st 2023.
  3. All selections played less than 500 minutes of first team football last season

From a personal standpoint love seeing so many young Irish lads there.
Bazunu is already first choice for Southhampton.

Isn’t he part of the senior squad?

Not yet, he’s played every game for the U21s so far and has been their best player by a mile.

Liverpool U18s were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur in their U18 Premier League Cup tie at the Academy on Saturday morning.

A hat-trick from striker Jaden Williams either side of half-time did the damage for the visitors, who kept the ball better throughout and deserved their victory.

The young Reds’ late pressure wasn’t enough to turn the game around and a late Lewis Koumas goal proved only consolation for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side.

The opener came five minutes before the interval when Williams twisted and turned impressively in the Liverpool box then drilled a low effort into the corner past Luke Hewitson to break the deadlock.

That lead was swiftly extended in first-half injury time as the ball fell to the No.9 inside the area and he beat Hewitson again.

Williams completed his hat-trick on 55 minutes when a corner from the right was missed at the front post and he was able to steer the ball home to complete his treble.

The Reds kept going and exerted some late pressure, which resulted in a consolation effort from Koumas, firing low past Luca Gunter with his left foot on 86 minutes.

It could have been a different story for the home team if they had taken advantage of a couple of promising situations in the first half.

A brilliant ball from full-back Niall Osborne allowed Koumas to get in front of the final defender but his strike was partly blocked by Gunter and cleared with just seven minutes on the clock.

Next, centre-back Terence Miles made a superb break upfield and played in Trent Kone-Doherty down the left. The winger’s pullback reached Ranel Young at the back post but his goalbound hit was cleared near the line by Brandon Bryan-Waugh.

Some fine deliveries by Michael Laffey from corners also offered a possible danger for the hosts, with Carter Pinnington heading one over and another almost resulting in an own goal.

Spurs were creating their chances too, however – Max McKnight blasted over from close range and Hewitson saved well from Riley Owen.

And the goals either side of half-time changed the game firmly in favour of Spurs, with Liverpool chasing the contest from then on.

Kone-Doherty and Young switched wings to try to fashion an opening and the latter picked up a poor backpass to almost grab a quick response to the third goal but his effort was blocked by a last-ditch challenge.

Substitute Iwan Roberts had the ball in the net with 10 minutes left, only for the offside flag to be raised as he slotted home after the goalkeeper spilled a decent attempt from Koumas.

The late Koumas goal offered some reward for Liverpool’s exertions in the match but the visitors saw it out to clinch all three points.

Liverpool U18s: Hewitson, Osborne, Gyimah, Pinnington, Miles, Laffey (Danns, 84), Young (Figueroa, 84), Onanuga (Roberts, 60), Koumas, McConnell, Kone-Doherty.

Unused substitutes: Morana, Samuels.

Jake Cain and Bobby Clark scored as Liverpool U21s played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds took the lead during the first half through the outstanding Cain, who also helped to create a number of other fine chances.

But two quick goals after the interval, the second a penalty, put United in front before Clark fired the home side level and almost won it late on.

Liverpool started the Premier League 2 encounter really well and could have been ahead inside five minutes, Layton Stewart narrowly finding the side-netting as he sought the top corner from a tight angle.

They went even closer with just six minutes on the clock, Cain rattling the crossbar with a super strike from 25 yards that had Radek Vitek well beaten in the United goal.

Barry Lewtas’ side were creating lots of space, especially down the left, where full-back Luke Chambers was combining well with James Norris.

For the visitors, Zidan Iqbal caused some problems with a mazy run on 20 minutes, before a tremendous Lee Jonas tackle denied Isak Hansen-Aaroen as he closed in on goal with Liverpool defenders expecting an offside flag that never came.

Cain was pulling lots of strings and turned creator midway through the half, sliding in Stewart but the striker’s clipped effort beat both the goalkeeper and the top of the goal.

Next the midfielder found Melkamu Frauendorf in space, though his low shot lacked the power to beat Vitek, and another clever pass sent Stewart through only for his shot to go just past the post.

The Reds deservedly took the lead on 37 minutes and it was no surprise that it was Cain who made the breakthrough. Clark’s lay-off sat up nicely and Cain fired home from inside the box via a slight deflection – a nice way to celebrate his 21st birthday just a day before.

Fabian Mrozek was needed twice in the closing minutes to see out the half, first denying Alejandro Garnacho one-on-one. The Polish goalkeeper then raced off his line to smother an effort from the advancing Charlie McNeill.

The Reds almost extended their lead just after the break as a fine Norris cross was met by a Stewart volley that was blocked, and Frauendorf’s follow-up was well saved by Vitek.

United levelled on 50 minutes, however. A corner was never properly cleared and Hansen-Aaroen finished tidily when the ball reached him on the edge of the box.

And the visitors soon moved ahead. Dominic Corness was judged to have fouled Hansen-Aaroen in the box and although Mrozek got both hands to McNeill’s penalty he could not keep it out of the net.

The lead lasted just three minutes, though, as Liverpool hit straight back.

Clark’s fine afternoon saw him fouled in the area and he was first to react to turn home the rebound after Stewart’s penalty was saved by Vitek.

A brilliant ball from Cain found Stewart in the box with less than 20 minutes left and the young striker swivelled well but his shot was too close to the goalkeeper as the Reds went in search of a winner.

Luca Stephenson almost provided it with his first touch off the bench, collecting a Stewart pass and striking at goal but just lacking the power to find the net.

Clark looked the man most likely to deliver a decider, creating space with some lovely skill to fire a shot in on Vitek with five minutes left but again the United ’keeper gathered well as both sides were forced to settle for a point.

Liverpool U21s: Mrozek, Mabaya, Chambers, Quansah, Jonas, Corness, Frauendorf (Cannonier, 68), Clark, Stewart (Blair, 86), Cain (Stephenson, 83), Norris.

Unused substitutes: Hughes, Olufunwa.

Have I missed something? Where is Musialowski? Is he injured?

Yes he’s been out few the last few weeks after limping off in our draw with Brighton

What’s the reason for him not in the 40 man squad for the YCL? Too old?

Same as Keita and Ox is my guess, it’s a very short time period for this group stage and he must not be predicted to be fit again in time to play.

Didn’t he get called up to Poland u21s though?

Will have to see if he plays, Tom Hill got called up to Ireland U20s last season when he was injured and hadn’t played in 18 months, so sometimes weird stuff happens with internationals.
