Luis Diaz (LW) Barcelona

Unless someone is actively disrespecting the person who has died, no one has the right to tell someone else how they grieve. It’s a very personal thing which affects everyone differently.

Agreed, him wanting a move and him not being at the funeral are separate things in my mind until explicitly said otherwise by the man himself.

Attending a funeral has nothing to do with how you grieve. It’s something you do out of respect to his family. To show support and solidarity. The dearly departed won’t know that you aren’t there. But the living will never forget it.

To be clear, I understand that making a funeral on short notice may be a challenge, especially from another part of the world. I also understand the concerns of players like Ronaldo that his attendance would have triggered a greater paparazzi frenzy and he wanted to avoid that out of respect to the family and in recognition of the solemn occasion.

But Luis was reported in multiple media sources hanging out with influencers instead of attending. That’s after Diogo made a very public gesture of solidarity with Luis’s father when he was in a life-threatening situation. I don’t know how you can look yourself in the mirror.

Then to effectively admit that they have been talking to other clubs about a transfer…it’s smacks as indecent at the very least.

since when do players just casually toss out the fact that they’re actively negotiating personal terms with other clubs while under contract?

It may be that he’s behaved badly. It may also be that it’s a situation that’s been twisted by various parties to create a narrative that suits their interests.
Why can’t we just wait and see? It’ll come out eventually, but right now it’s all just speculation.
Haven’t we all seen this type of thing happen repeatedly in the age of digital media?
Rushing to judgement serves nobody except our rivals.

I honestly don’t care if Diaz has “feelings” or is selfish or whether he really grieved.

To each his own. I was terribly upset about Jota’s passing but I really don’t expect everyone else to be. It is like a childhood crush who doesn’t like you back.

So what. He is hired to be professional and if he is professional on and off the pitch I will be satisfied. If he demonstrates himself to be a fantastic human being I might think more highly of him and feel more of an emotional connection… but that is just a oneway emotion.

Let’s also not over analyze the behavior of twenty something year olds who are in the spotlight 365 days a year. They will mess up occasionally… only repetitive messups or premeditated ones are more indicative of character.

I feel this is an attempt to piss us off especially considering the images aren’t recent.

Beware of the tactics scummy clubs like Barca play, they like to pretend they are special but they really aren’t.

More fool those suckered in by it.

He’s under contract for another two years so he’s not in a position to be calling any shots. As it stands , he is sorely needed and the club should just ignore the noise.

60 million euros, what’s that? 50 million pounds?

Tell them to double it.
At least.

They can’t afford him and his acceptance of their terms is just a bargaining chip.

Yep - plus with Jamal breaking his leg, they are desperate.

If they weren’t willing to break the bank for Florian, they won’t for Diaz.

I’d imagine there’s no world where he leaves for €60m.

Plus we’ve tragically lost our Portuguese scouser, and Darwin isn’t fancied by the gaffer

Have we informally set a price for Diaz? Or is it a straightforward not for sale stance? My take is something like €85M would see a move go through, and the not for sale stance is to prevent chancers, or protracted negotiations with teams who do not have the money e.g. Barcelona.

All things being equal, I think we would rather keep him. He is a very good player. But if he does want a move, he’s not indispensable. But the money has to be right.

He is not in the top bracket of salaries at Liverpool, and he probably has a higher view of his worth than we do. He is 28 and likely wants the next 4 years or so at the maximum he can get paid, hence the little tussle that seems to be going on.

I do not begrudge Diaz wanting better terms or even a transfer. But publicly admitting that he’s been talking to other clubs when he’s under contract with this one is sorely disappointing.

85m euros is nowhere near enough.

Tell us, how we replace what he brings to the team for that money?
