Manchester Cheaty* - 130 charges (and counting...) (Part 2)

the solution is simple. stop having this feeling.

title stripping is a bare minimum for what they’ve done

Yeah. Its a mark of how badly the Prem has handled its governance that when trying to find a buyer for Chelsea they acknowledged that any due diligence prospective owners did was almost certain to find fuckery worthy of big sanctions. No one was going to spend billions to buy them AND be on the hook for Roman’s transgressions and so the league were faced with the prospect of having Chelsea go under or construct a deal that allowed it to largely be washed away. The extent of that Sophie’s Choice is revealed when you realize that the new owners have not even paid these fines, but comes out of the money they have already paid to purchase the club.

I agree but doubt it happens.

I saw a video today noting the anticipation regarding whether the penalty will be implemented immediately, just as it was with other clubs previously. For instance, when the points deduction for Everton was announced, it was reflected in the league table almost right away. From what I’ve seen, a harsh verdict is expected; only the City camp is still trying to downplay the situation.

if not, you are basically greenlighting buying titles. its a price that some would then consider worth paying regardless of future sanctions.

the pl would basically be indicating that if youve got enough money, its okay to cheat

money is no object to the. so fines are irrelevant. even with a points based relegation, theyd think it was well worth doing what they did.

lets set aside the notion of awarding the titles to us or man u or arsenal.

title wins arent just in the past. they have immense value and permanence.

they have to be stripped off them

Hence why the punishment needs to be titles striped, kicked out of the P/L and the F/L to reject them joing forcing them into non-league. If the owners don’t like it and walk away, then good fucking riddence.

Burn the whole shitshow of a club to the ground

It depends whats in the rules when the Melbourne Storm fiddled the Salary cap they had titles stripped. When Saracens did they same in Union they werent as Premiership rugby said they had no mechanism in they bylaws to do this. That law was ammend after.

My modest proposal:

Strip the titles

Require sale of the club to new ownership

Proceeds of that sale go to compensate the many clubs victimized by loss of titles, sponsorships, CL money, relegation, etc. Set up independent arbiter to distribute.

In return, FA and the relevant clubs give up the right to impose a “death penalty” on the club, or to sue it into oblivion

New ownership gets a clean slate without any major points deduction or relegation

Current MC players can choose whether to stay or leave

I think the titles should be reassigned.

If City’s results are ultimately invalidated, surely the logical starting point is that the highest remaining eligible finisher gets the title.

The argument that City’s presence created too many “knock-on effects” doesn’t really work for me. It doesn’t invalidate the performances of every other club, they still played the season and earned their points.

And if you argue that City’s presence fundamentally affected the whole table, then that logic has to apply to seasons they didn’t win too. You can’t say the table is too compromised to award the title to second place when City win, but treat the same table as perfectly valid when City finish second.

Either the other clubs’ performances remain valid, or they don’t. The principle should be consistent.

Their performance being invalid doesnt mean you can reasonably determine that someone else deserves them. Obviously a couple of our seasons we were so far out ahead of everyone the suggestion is not tenable, but it isnt for most seasons. And it is surely the case you need to treat all seasons the same - you cannot pick and choose which seasons to reallocate a title and which not to, so you dont do it.

But more to the point, people are supposed to remember title winners. Who remembers the team who came second 9 years ago? Youre telling me Spurs now have a title? This is whole sorry episode is sullying to football. Handing out new titles to teams who missed out wouldnt make that better

To my mind, a City getting a proper a punishment is the most important thing. If that happens, I think we can all sleep soundly, regardless of whether the titles are just stripped or reassigned.

If they are stripped, and City’s punishment sets them back many years, just as their cheating helped them many years, then fine.

The secondary argument is what happens to the titles, and I’d be chilled either way at that point, so long as the punishment for City is thorough.

Man City vs Spurs in the Championship next Season will be some viewing

As mentioned before, dropping City down to other division is unfair to other clubs having a chance of promotion. City should be kicked out of PL, and let other divisions decide whether to accept them or not.

You need to provide more context on “buying titles”. Buying titles is exactly what we did when we bought Virg, Ali and co. If you mean buying titles via SWF then that’s another story, though I don’t agree in any case that LFC should have a drastically greater chance than say, Bournemouth, to win the league, just because we have a bigger fan base, bigger stadium and more shirt sales. If there was a league where we were truly a 1/20 shot at the title, and where titles are won by a coach’s and his players’ abilities and a salary cap that completely disregarded a club’s wealth, I would genuinely be all in on that.

But as it is, I think the point is still being missed and that the anger, and by extension, the punishment, should be directed at City’s conduct: a blatant refusal to cooperate, a full denial of any wrongdoing, perpetrating this idea of a grand “red cartel” conspiracy against them, and a proven scorched earth policy which we saw in their discussions between the administration and lawyers.

A fucking disgusting club, and it’s the above which will guarantee that the PL member clubs will try to bury them.

That is effectively what happened to Rangers, but under different circumstances.

All this kicked out of the leagues stuff. City will declare bankruptcy. Fold. State a new club called something else (Abu Dhabi we did not cheat bastards) and start again.

Nope. They won’t declare bankruptcy. They will try and delay this matter in the courts.

And largely by City’s delaying of the procedures, the total charges took so much time to come up. I’m not sure of whether the PL right now has the appetite to go after them with anything more than relegating them for a season.

But even that punishment is enough (provided the FA Cups/League Cups/PL/Charity Shields) etc are stripped off from Man City and there’s appropriate compensation which is dealt out to all the clubs.
