Manchester City* - 130 charges (and counting...) (Part 2)

Well, apart from Lineker, obviously.

Are City signing Suarez and Stanley Matthews?

They wish…

Suppose it’s better than discussing what we think will happen with the charges even though none of us know.

I saw 30 posts and thought something had happened. What a waste. Not even one decent pun amongst them

In the league

Chelsea (h)
Arsenal (a)
Newcastle (h)
Liverpool (h)
Spurs (a)
Forest (a)

And they will have to play the two additional CL games during that time.

I said if they can take 9 points from those next three and we fail to take at least 9 then perhaps they can be considered if they beat us but if I’m totally honest I’d be surprised if they do.

City have just spent 75 million on two defenders, a 20 year old CB and a 19 year old LB.

That’s exactly what they need. City have no promising youth to supplement these aging players

Worth remembering that they ended last summer with a transfer profit of €140m.

Both of them have been described as “complete” defenders. Which is quite a statement for one guy who was playing in the Belorussian league six months ago and another who has made a grand total of 22 senior appearances in Brazil and was not promoted past the U17s by the national team.

Two England U20s now ousted by Reis’ signing…
RIP Simpson-Pusey, at least you got two starts before they gave up on you.
RIP Max Alleyne, ye who never had a chance

I am sure they will do well for Chelsea 3 years from now

Yeah, I’d have far less issue if these were another Guardiol level signing where you can at least point in general to the issue of the challenging bridging youth/reserve football with CL football in one step. Or even someone like Akanji…not as well regarded, but a known quality with experience. But these are kids with trivially more experience in men’s football than the players available to them who came through their academy. And have adaptations in other ways (do either even speak english?)

…or they are getting relegated, and they intend to build a young team while Fraudiola is still there

but why not build with players from their own youth set up?

It’s all very odd. The quality of signings, and the funds allocated has deteriorated very quickly…and they still dont put faith in youngsters at the club…

In this day and corrupted age… Who can even guess why large sums of money are handed over…!

They’ve got a severe lack of midfielders and James McAtee has four goals in two games between Salford and Ipswich - yet you get the impression that the thought of using McAtee makes Guardiola physically sick.

Someone here has the time and willingness to regularly watch matches of City’s kids?

Maybe some of them are not that good and/or a good fit?

Maybe. But they are the best academy in the country by a fairly big margin, and have a very successful track record of producing players who are ready for this level of football pretty much immediately upon getting a move to somewhere that will play them. It’s possible the current cohort arent as good and Pep is right to ignore them. It’s possible.
