Last season(?) I thought meh when Walker was named captain. Bit of a weak choice, because as a player, he was already slowly declining and nearing exit. The one before him was Gundo, I think. I know the club captain doesnāt have to be a regular starter by default (De Bruyne is known for being a bit too quiet/introvert, you canāt have it all), but Bernardo is much more intelligent. A real team player. Also, one of the most hard working attacking minded players of his era.
No secret that Bernardo has been thinking about leaving (Saudi) for two years. Pep needs Bernardo. Thatās probably why he gave him the armband. Heās also out of contract in 2026.
