Masculinity - What Makes a Man?

You have said before that you don’t want to engage with me and thats fine, but you must understand the irony in your statement…

On three seperate occasions over the last few months I have asked you to elaborate, or indeed explain your opinion or a statement you made. One of which had a loaded comment.

On each occasion you blithely ignored the request. You stuck your fingers in your ears and continued to think you were right.

You don’t allow others a free pass, yet you expect it yourself.

We should all hold doors open for each other regardless of sex, gender, race, age or religion as Commando says.

It is condescending to assume that people need protection. Some men and some women need protection, some don’t. Assuming that all women are defenceless victims in need of male protection is patronising.

Sometimes a gif of Matt Lucas rubbing his eyes in despair at another sub-Clarkson ‘common sense’ proclamation says more than a thousand words.

The word “sometimes” is doing the heavy lifting there.

And potentially deleterious to a man’s financial position, if history is any guide.

Generally it’s the opposite sex who define masculinity.

In short we are not that different to monkeys or other animals. Desirably traits do come down what will make a good sexual mate.

Trends have varied through the years. However generally physical health, status, ability to protect and provide all drive our monkey brains.

What is desirable, drives masculinity. Woman might say a sense of humour and personality are the most important thing but give them the choice of a Chris Hemsworth and David Mitchell there is only one winner.

Sneering, arrogant, self-righteous masculinity, anyone? No, I am not talking about Tom Cruise. This clip does have testosterone coming from all angles.

you can have no particular pull to having children of your own, but would feel the need to protect them if in danger…

i think that was Klopptomists point.

its broad, but i do agree that a male that would protect a fellow human, is masculine. you could extend and suggest he would also mean anyone whos vunerable…say a guy whos fallen over, or an ederly gent…

your art makes one question their own masculinity and provoke thought about how serious is societies ever evolving desire to achieve gender equality…

well at least the one with the seagulls and the sun in it did…

There is nothing in creation more protective than a mother.

yes. well. i wont even begin to argue there.

but it still doesnt change Klopptomists thoughts on masculinity. and it doesnt mean a mother is masculine.

the two can equally be true.

that was my interpretation of the work, an idealised symbol of freedom, the work i think provokes the inner seagull in the viewer and the inner turmoil one must overcome to soar above the metaphysical waves which are symbolised not by crashing realistic strokes of the brush, but by definition of the child like art of a semi circle that crescendos up only to be further outlined by a similar semi circle crescendoing down, similating lifes cycle.

to some it can look like a few Maccas symbols next to a yellow circle above simplised waves…but the the sophisticated emotive critic, it encompasses so much more.

Yes of course, that was exactly what I meant and more. Glad I am inspiring people in the midst of a troubled world.

No, I get it. Jack’s a little strong there. How about this guy?

Nah

I worked until 11pm last night and 1am tonight…

I’ve also had a huge rum and an even bigger whisky…I’m drunk and tired, so take this with a grain of salt…

I have two sons…both tiny so no need to worry just yet, but I reckon when I’m trying to teach them what it means to be a man I’ll buy them each a James Milner shirt and tell them that they could do far worse than to look up to him.

Quiet, respectful, driven. Someone who would lie down in traffic for what he believed in. Not much more you could ask for, really.
