I think so. That’s what was said when he came back. He had lots of good job offers but he wanted to flex his muscles higher up the food chain, and FSG carved out a job for him to do that.
Apart from that, we don’t know what is going on. To date FSG has not acquired another club and it seems to be moving slowly. Maybe Edwards doesn’t have the budget he needs? Maybe these things take more time than one might imagine? Maybe it’s a slow-burn strategy, and we are waiting for the right opportunity at the right price to come along - more reactive than proactive?
It’s hard to know what is going on, but either way, I think it is too soon for him to consider something else, as he has barely made a mark in his new role yet.
Still, the wider point is there - as the Saudis continue to invest in football, it will naturally follow that they will start to throw big money at the best administrators.
Absolutely. I know he is an FSG person and not hands on with LFC. And his role is a very high level role, almost quasi-owner, way above the authority he had before as the DOF at LFC.
So with all that said, why hasn’t Edwards bought another club yet in his FSG role? That’s the sort of question I’m asking. Is it budget? Opportunity? Or just that these things just take more time?
If his remit is to help FSG become multi-club, and a year into the role they still have one football club in their portfolio, what has he been doing?
