No.6: Once Beloved, Once Broken — Now Searching for Meaning Again
No.6 at Liverpool was never flashy.
But that’s exactly why it holds something deeper.
It hides pain. It remembers promise.
And it waits — for someone to make it whole again.
Long before the modern game, we had Ron Yeats —
Liverpool’s first great captain under Shankly.
The colossus. The foundation. The man the boss told us to walk around.
Then came Emlyn Hughes —
wild, passionate, untamed.
He didn’t just wear No.6. He made it feel alive.
Years later, we loved it through John Arne Riise.
Left-footed fury. Unstoppable runs.
A hammer from Norway with a heart of iron.
But his final act?
An own goal in a Champions League semifinal.
The number was silenced — not by failure, but by heartbreak.
Fábio Aurélio followed.
Not a warrior — a technician.
Graceful. Deadly with a free-kick.
He scored at Old Trafford with elegance.
But more than his goals, we remember…
how often we missed him when he was injured.
Then came Dejan Lovren.
Not perfect. Never adored.
But he stayed. He fought. He defended.
And when it mattered — he stood tall.
Because sometimes, the shirt belongs not to the best…
but to the ones who endure.
Then came Thiago Alcântara.
A footballing poet.
We thought No.6 would dance again.
But the body betrayed the script.
He didn’t fail.
He just ran out of pages.
Now, it’s Milos Kerkez who wears it.
No history yet. No weight on his name.
But one thing is clear:
he dares to wear it.
Because at Liverpool, No.6 isn’t about spotlight.
It’s about showing up —
even when you don’t know if the ending will be yours.
Born in 2003. I started Uni in 2003
So you’re saying you could have been his dad driving him around in a lambo?
A year later for me. But I did defer.
I deffered for 2 years
His pace allows our left sided forward to be in more central positions. Looked damn impressive.
He (and Frimpong) looked a bit overzealous and lost in the last two matches. I hope they can tone it down a bit and stop trying to impress with their aggression and go back to basics until they get accustomed to their new surroundings.
Knew nothing about Kerkez before we signed him. He is very young but looks a bit out of his depth in the two games so far. No doubt he will improve but maybe he should be eased in rather than being a starter?
Think Frimpong was good. He would do better to not put his arms around the opponent so much. But he did well to track back and was well forward with his pace when given the chance.
Kerkez , he was dire without the ball but I put that to the lack of understanding between him and Virgil. With the ball , I think he was alright. Pressed on forward, gave the overlap when possible.
He still needs to work on his dress code. Doesn’t he have anyone who could have helped him with his tie?
Tell him to fix his tie, Virg.
At least he is not wearing trainers with his suit and tie (sorry Kloppo!).
Robertson should start ahead of this guy for now.
Sit and watch how to play
Very unconvincing start to the season. Really needs to get his act together asap, otherwise our opponents will take advantage of him. Seems to be out of position more often than not defensively and he’s been weak in his 1v1 defending. A little bit better offensively but that’s not saying much.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Robbo comes back in against Arsenal
I’d get rid on the back of two games.
All that Jota stuff didn’t take long to go out of the window. Show the lad some support why don’t you. I’m probably expecting Robbo to start anyhow but give it 20 mins and Robbo is caught out of position and we’ll get the same about him.
Shove it in the sites search engine there are plenty of comments.
Oh aye, because Robbo really showed him the last time eh?
I still trust a fit and rested Robertson more than Kerkez. Doesn’t mean that he won’t come good, but at this time his form is an issue.
That was one of the worst pieces of defending I can recall, and there have been plenty of them during the years.
I think Konate topped it several times throughout the game and Robbo had a narrative last season about being caught out and conceding goals.
I personally would rotate them anyhow for starters however I think that will happen once Europe kicks in. Though I can see him going with Robbo for this match on Sunday.
What he tried to do wasn’t a terrible idea. FBs rarely try to outright win high balls at the back post but instead position themselves to make it very hard for an attacker to get into the space needed for them to win it cleanly. People will call it “boxing out” and it is often done with a Dalglish style arse out bump that gives the defender even more space. He just executed it terribly
