Is he waving from the other side of the pitch?

Opposite side.

Didn’t expect Insua to be mentioned, that’s pushing it too far.

I might do if it’s Milos Thursday. For now, I’m leaving my coat on the hook.

Aurelio and Riise were OK but you probably have to go back to 80’s or early 90’s for a for anyone close to Robertson in terms of both ability and availability.

Just like how we probably have to go back that far when comparing our wingers/ wide forwards before Mane.

I think you have to go back to Alan Kennedy. Like several of our stalwarts of that era he didnt get the recognition he deserved outside of liverpool, but he had that role locked down for a good 6-7 years and obviously contributed some huge moments

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. I was trying to remember who played left back in the early mid 80’s. I can remember back to Burrows and Staunton. I can’t remember if Nicol was playing left back before then.

Robbo has been brilliant for us. I hope he stays as I think he still has something to give. Rumours of his demise have been, for me, greatly exaggerated. He can’t do two games a week at this stage, and he is now past peak, but he is hardly ready for the knackers yard!

Robbo has plenty left to give, in the right set up. i.e. not as the main man who is needed for every waking minute, but as the older pro, who will perform at a very high level while the younger pro beds in and assumes the mantle.

If Robbo would rather go and be a first choice elsewhere, respect to him for that. But I think there is work for him to do at Liverpool, both on and off the pitch, to help usher in a new era, post-Klopp.

Beglin replaced Kennedy but didn’t last long. We then had a series of respected but, IMO lesser players, interspersed with some genuinely bad ones, that really stretches to Robbo.

Best think I liked about Steve Finnan (solid right fullback of course) was how he managed to completely disappear after he hung up his boots.

I vaguely remember we were trying to get in touch with him for a legends thing, but nobody knew how to get a hold of him!

It’s not like he was kidnapped, or was a spy or something, but my recollection is that he didn’t hang around the game after he finished playing. No interview. No pundit. No coaching. Nothing.

He just became a normal bloke, on the down low, quiet life… who just happened to be a former Premier League player at a top club.

That’s it, thanks. I’d forgotten Jim Beglin. Had that leg break.

Tiresome commentator. Absolutely insufferable!

No Nicol was right back.

He played the majority of his games at Right Back but he was exceptionally versatile playing a lot of games in midfield and across the back four.
