Anyway, presuming the reports are true, why has it taken so long?
Does this mean that a lot of haggling has already taken place and we’re offering contracts that are likely to be accepted?

I suspect that they are interrelated. Mo is currently the club’s highest earner. I’m assuming that he doesn’t exactly want a pay cut on a new contract. Trent is 26 and you would expect him to be at the point in his career where he gets a diamond encrusted deal. You would sort of expect that to be at least what Mo gets if not more. Virg is club captain, and I wouldn’t imagine that he wants to be seen as the pauper, but he us also the oldest.
From the club’s point of view, they are probably assessing it in terms of whether the deal makes financial sense to the club if it was a new signing (which, in financial effect, it is). I’d see 2 years for Mo and VVD as sensible. They are both playing excently but are the wrong side of 30.
Trent is the tricky one. There arguably isn’t a better player for what he does, but there are possibly other players who can do different aspects of his game just as well. I’m still not sure whether his interest in RM is genuine (I don’t think he is bluffing) or mainly as a bargaining strategy by his agent (brother).
The club will offer all three deals. I have a suspicion that Trent will be offered a take-it-or-leave it in the same way that they bid for Bellingham.

I suspect it’s more the case that his overwhelming preference is still to stay with us, but it’s not a bad alternative for him, so it makes perfect sense as a bargaining chip.

I think he’s been as imperious this season as he’s ever been. Can’t think of a single occasion of a defender getting the better of him, other than the very occasional brain fart

In fairness that post was in October and he has been immense since. However these would be something odd going on if a defender did get the better of him

We used to have a specific thread for contracts on the old forum, could be useful to remain updated and not be surprised to realize when certain players start having 2 or less years on their deals.
Which got me a bit worried already when Trent hit that 2 years left on his deal mark, we played a shit season and there was absolutely nothing on a potential new contract with him.
Or certain clauses if we find out about them along the way, like Alisson not being tied to 2027, but 2026 + 1.
Stuff like that can easily get lost in players’ threads.
Maybe this one can stay/be renamed, hopefully after a best possible outcome for the club.
All three will resign.

Virgil holds the back line together and we will ship loads of goals with him not there. Up front we can buy fire power but where are we going to find another CH like him!
