Mohamed SALAH: 2022/23

This was the second or third time both Salah and Milner were on the pitch and Salah took the penalty.

First missed pen in the league for him - no problem.

The problem is that most of the time he doesn’t seem to be a threat on the pitch anymore and he is not alone with that.

Agree but I feel more confident with Millie, as he hits the traget and with pace

Salah’s penalty record with us is absolutely fine. His first miss for years, suggesting Milner should have taken the responsibility is a non starter for me.

It is fine but I dont think his penalties are as cinvincing as Milly’s

Milner handed the responsibility to Salah two years ago.
Its not even a discussion.

If Salah scored, Milner wouldn’t be mentioned in this thread…but its just another vehicle to pillory him.

He was piss poor yesterday
Like his team mates …

But he was sublime last week?
Like his team mates

That penalty doesn’t define him.

Penalty taker is least of our problems. We may not even be practicing it because we get one per year anyway.

Milner and Salah had an identical professional record of 30-5 before Salah’s penalty yesterday. The way people are going on about it you’d think there was a massive disparity between the two.

One thing I will point out though - Salah’s recent record is a little concerning. He does seem to have lost confidence when taking penalties.

Edit: these stats don’t include shootouts, so Salah’s miss in the AFCON wouldn’t be included.

The thing is though if he scored the penalty we would have probably went on and won the game.:grin: so we should not be afraid to mention this.
And we would not be getting 7 up mile jokes from utd fans.

I expect all penalty takers to miss at some stage and in this case you are blowing what people are saying out of proportion as I have said I have always felt more confident with Milly taking penalties and even then he will not score them all.

How is that pilloring Mo

It was a general comment about how Salah is viewed by some supporters, and lets be honest the theme with some is “Sell him, he isnt worth the wages” etc…

@Sweeting asks a genuine question.
His form yesterday gives rise to a question. Last Sunday he was sublime. So criticism is fair, but he gets some unwarranted stuff.

And at no point did I mention you.

I’ve never felt confident in his penalties and I’m not one who would sell him, that was the reason for my remark.

Yesterday had a feeling of one of those days early on with that clearance off the line so I doubt Milner would have scored.

Egyptian authorities are investigating after Salah’s house was burgled in the Fifth Settlement area of Cairo, according to local reports, as per @goal

I was the most vocal in what Inhave said about penalties and I am also one that does also feel that we shouldn’t be paying a 29 year old $350k/week.

But as you said you didn’t specifically mention me.

Mo has been unbelivable for us but there was a drop of last year and it has been the same this year, however he is still scoring at a great rate but he does need to be subbed in some games when he isn’t performing and atm he is struggling against teams that are playing conservatively.

I agree.
As I said, the comments were in general.

He missed away at Leicester last year.

When MO takes a penalty for us, he doesn’t just have the pressure of our fanbase to contend with… he has the whole of Egypt that will be watching him also… I have no doubt, no-one will be practising penalties in training as much as Salah does… Yesterday’s went over the bar… Shit happens

I have no problem with Mo taking that penalty, or our next penalty in a year or two if we behave. The miss is more indicative of a general lack of confidence.

Its just unfortunate that everything went wrong for us in the match including a missed penalty. And Salah has never missed a penalty for us in the sense that he had 3 saved penalties but never a miss like this. So its almost like we are contriving to miss out on CL places.

Above 80% is very good and what we should be getting, being a top club side, working together for a number of years.

But I must say, technique wise, I didn’t like a number of Salah’s penalties. Some were great and accurate, some were more on power (but very close to the goalie). It was funny how he (and we) spoke about his Madrid pen just a few days before.

I prefered Millie’s clean, consistent and reliable technique. But I understand that for a while now, Salah’s become our first taker.

One thing is for sure for me, I want Salah to stay. After being great for all those years and still being our topscorer and the guy with the most assist he is entitled to have a season where he is not at his best.

He choose to stay with us, he has my loyalty.
