Hope you haven’t bumped into this bloke:
The best attacker we have in the PL era. Not sure anyone could ever reach his heights as an attacker in terms of goals, consistency and greatness and a well liked person at the same time. It would take a legendary run for any future attackers to overtake him.
Very good last night, that’s more like it and hopefully he kicks on from here. Strong in duels, clear(er) touches on the ball, decisive, aggressive. Although really weird from Digne, it’s not like he lacks experience in this league, but it seemed like he just didn’t know how to defend him last night.
Man City '21
Will never be forgotten.
That Man Utd goal will always remain in the memory, didn’t he do a Man City type goal the week before against Watford?
Yeah, what are they going to learn about him in a friendly that they don’t already know?
You’d think his status as a national hero would mean he gets what he wants.
Which Mo Salah will show up today?
Does anyone else have a feeling that him being off form impacts the team’s balance more than any tactical “solution” that Slot comes up with this season? Things are just not happening for him - I lambast Gakpo’s finishing but these days Salah rarely finds himself with an opportunity to miss a sitter in the first place. When he does get a rare chance, he opts to shoot instead of passing to a better positioned teammates, which happened against Man City as well (albeit at 3:0).
We’ve seen that from him before, the worse things get for him, the more stubborn he is with his shooting, only this time… I don’t see him turning his form around, not even close to the level of wages he’s been getting. That pen he and Gakpo used to sign their latest contracts must have been cursed. I won’t be surprised if this turns out to be his last season at Liverpool, although it would be a sad ending for one of the greatest players this club has ever had.
they do look alike,
i wonder if his brother has been standing in for Mo this season? ![]()
We didn’t progress well from deep so we didn’t arrive enough, but O’Reilly had some very good reactions against him.
Some people might not like what Danny Murphy is saying here, perhaps because they don’t like Murphy, but I think he’s making some very valid points.
If Mo can’t make more of a defensive contribution, then maybe it’s time for Slot to think about playing without him in the team.
I don’t think anyone would disagree that perhaps we should consider other options. Of course Murphy would and I believe was one of those banging on about offering a new contract. I feel in my gut that we should have gone with just the one in VVD
I’ve a feeling AFCON is going to be the watershed moment where a fit Isak, an up to speed Wirtz, and an already adjusted Ekitike start to find an understanding up front. Once that trio clicks we won’t look back.
If Slot wants to play with out and out wingers moving forward, he needs to sign one or two!
Salah is a legend and he has been one of our best players ever. His achievements at the club have been phenomenal and his record is secure, as is his place in our affections.
On the pitch he is no longer giving enough to warrant a starting spot and should start to see more bench time IMO. Few fullbacks are worried about him these days.
He will still score a few, and still have some moments, even big moments, but I think it is more than a blip or a loss of form, and AFCON may well be the watershed moment where a new thing takes root at Liverpool.
Ive not seen one game this season that reminds me of his former skillset, other than the stabby goal at Brentford. His touch is as always excellent but work rate and pace just aren’t there, nor also, his quick change of direction.
His touch has been diabolically bad this season though. Besides the games against Villa and Real where he actually controlled the ball and beat his man for the first time this season, the simple basics of football have eluded him. It doesn’t help that our tactic is to just get the ball out wide to Salah, watch him lose possession every time then not track back and leave our right hand side exposed and vulnerable. His game has evolved to that of a poacher not the pacey dribbler he once was he needs to be moved closer to goal not further away hugging the touch line where he is ineffective in both the attacking and defensive aspects of the game.
He’s a great player, but he’s definitely not the type who’s touch was always excellent.
Slot said that we lost the midfield and got outnumbered, one of the reasons is that Mo doesn’t defend and a midfielder has to get over and help Connor as much as possible leaving gaps and space inside.
There was one break where Mo was alongside Doku and he just ambled back and stopped without trying to track him, so Connor had to move over whilst O’Neil moved to the outside to receive a pass from Doku and had all the space in the World.
For me this can’t go on, Mo has slowed and isn’t the threat he was, yes he will still score goals but not at the rate he did in the PL.
Been outstanding for us but now needs to not be a guaranteed starter.
