Iām not looking to make excuses for him, mate. But there are several combined factors explaining at least in part why heās not at his best currently. Each one taken in isolation wouldnāt have a big impact, but taken togetherā¦
Anyway, hopefully heāll soon find back his mojo. Iām not at all convinced that weāll not see super-Mo-performances yet, with a lot of goals to come.
In an effort to be respectful to Salah, given his standing and achievements as a player, Slot has undermined his own authority there. He is the boss, and it looks to me as though he has ceded too much ground to the player. It might come back to bite him.
Letās imagine there are other times in the future Slot wants to drop Salah. Fans arenāt stupid! Thatās what we expect to see more of as we go. Are we going to keep having this dance?
For me, how we have been playing defensively is the main issue and why Mo had to be dropped and thats not taking into account his poor form in the attacking phase.
No coach/manager should like dropping players, but ideally he shouldnāt just single out Mo when commenting on it he should use it in a team sense, but really it isnāt a major problem.
I think most of us feel a bit of rotation during matches would have been much better. Getting to the stage of ādroppingā someone of Moās quality is just ridiculous imo.
Then the snivelling and grovelling after just makes plain right stupid. About time they all grew a pair as they say. Man up and make reasonable, decent decisions before the situation gets out of control.
It just looks like Slot is out of his depth.
I would prefer something in between what he did and your tongue in cheek āFuck himā quote. Not a big deal, but the balance seemed off to me in Slotās comments. He is the manager and his responsibility is to pick the team he thinks will get a result. He just made a big decision on Salah and the team won. His posture seemed almost apologetic for it.
For me, yes, keep him benched. After many losses we just found a winning formula. I would be loathe to start Salah right away after making a big change. I would bring him on, say for the last 30, to see if some bench time has fired him up to the point that he shows us something closer to his best. If it does, great, as thatās the response you would want to see.
