Mohamed SALAH: 2025/26

‘Salah hasn’t done anything with Egypt’ always rears its head to discount him whether it’s award voting or just point scoring.

Do you know what Egyptian football has been through? How hard it has toiled to rise from the abyss. And who the country considers the most pivotal player to their rebirth?

The violent uprisings. The 2012 Port Said stadium tragedy where 74 people lost their lives with over 500 injured that led to the shutdown of the domestic league causing financial ruin, lack of competitiveness, erosion of facilities, spectator bans. Police tear-gassing fans leading to a stampede and more deaths in 2015…

And so with all that instability, the most successful team in African Cup of Nations history didn’t qualify for the 2012, 2013 and 2015 versions of the tournament.

It was Salah who scored twice away to Tanzania in qualifying to put them back at an AFCON for the first time since 2010… And was instrumental in getting them to two finals.

Egypt’s first World Cup appearance since 1990? It was Salah who kept his nerve to slot a 95th-minute penalty booking their place in the 2018 showpiece; their top scorer in the qualifying campaign.

And his nine goals to fire them to WC 2026 has made him the all-time top scorer in African qualifying history.

Egypt’s current generation, led by Salah, have put in a shift to just be back on these main stages after so much turmoil.

Carra did not start anything.

Mo had an unprofessional outburst that sparked the whole situation. During his 7 minute public airing of his grievance, he had a pop at Carragher.

At that point for me, it’s too much to expect Carragher to be quiet. He is a pundit paid to give his opinion, and Mo just created a huge story in the footballing world. Since he named Carragher, and since Carragher is a former red and this is a big Liverpool story, it was obvious and expected that he was going to address it.

I do agree with that. Bringing Egypt into it was unwise, and will only invite 120M passionate Egyptians to back their man against Carra.

This is a Liverpool-Salah-Slot issue.

Could’ve scored a penalty winner tonight…

You don’t understand the context of this post; perhaps you should read the previous posts first. This post is solely about the fact that it was unnecessary to talk about Egypt and his previous clubs, etc., and that this has now provoked strong reactions.

Edit

I’m really getting fed up with this. I’d better not say anything more about it here.

What I know about Carragher… he is not someone you would want defending you in a court of law… No No No… you would want the sharpest mind about to do that… This is likely to rumble on for a while now, and Carragher would be best to avoid holidaying in Egypt, probably for the rest of his life :0)

Please read my post where I say he was unwise to bring Egypt into it. I even looked up the population - 120M - before writing my post!

I really want to say this loud and clear above everything:
I have nothing but love and respect for you and think you are a fantastic poster on these boards.

On the situation with Salah, we might have slightly different perspectives, but hopefully we can allow for that, while the situation unfolds.

The way I see it is there will either be a reconciliation or he will move on. If it is the former, my opinion on the player is he is past peak, but still has plenty to offer, and I will be happy if he stays.

If he does move on, say in January, I will be sad because he deserves a great goodbye, with nothing but the respect and affection of all fans ringing in his ears, rather than leaving in the middle of a spat like this.

Whatever happens, Liverpool Football Club will remain.

We’d never have got to that point, unless you mean bring him on to take the kick

If the team go on a good run while AFCON is being played out, and MO hasn’t been sold off by some ‘hair-trigger’ executive, then MO should just eat a slice or two of humble-pie for his outburst, and ask to remain part of the squad, if selected to play, or not. With CL still to play for, it would be fitting if a parting of the ways was postponed until the end of the season at the earliest… where/when, he might get another ride on an open top bus parade, and wave his goodbye to most of Liverpool.

Literally everyone on Sky Sports have been kinder to Mo than Carragher has been.

Celebrity Gogglebox is more his speed.

Just heard a comment from Josh Williams regarding Mo, he has been out of the team for 7 days and this is how he reacts!

Puts it in to perspective how stupid it is.

I’m just guessing but I suspect it’s not just about these last three games. They were just the last straw for him.
I don’t think the new tactics/lack of structure on the pitch is suiting him. Might have something to do with that.

He’s being such a dick. I think he thought his performance on Sky would have all the Liverpool fans loving him on twitter but it backfired and now he’s doubling down.

“I’ll go after him when he throws my club under the bus”

How’s it Carra’s club any more than it’s Mo’s?

But kept his trap shut until he got dropped!

Unfortunately. I mean just two games and he’d be off to AFCON

I’d say Carra put LFC more at risk by undermining Rafa and backing the appointment of Hodgson if the stories are true.
