Quite amazing how our own fanbase are actively looking for reasons to criticise him. That gimp Lewis Steele has already had to apologise for putting out the (false) narrative that Salah didn’t clap the fans.
The amount of criticism and abuse he’s getting is obscene. Zero sympathy or compassion, just pure unadulterated childish nonsense because he’s not playing football as well as we’d like him to.
I replied to him to say he was lying about going straight down tunnel. You could see on tv that he clapped fans and shook hands with teammates and opponents. What’s Lewis’ agenda?
I don’t know what’s going on in Mo’s head, obviously. But if it’s true that he is at least, in some ways, upset about how things are going, I can speculate as to why that is.
The hardest thing for a star football player is to watch the sport pass you by. In his mind, Mo still believes he’s the main man. He sees how he performed last season and the fact that he’s the reigning PFA player of the year and finished 4th in the ballon d’or and he cannot imagine how the club could believe that they would be better off without him.
And after four miserable losses (and a run of poor form that extends back further), he watches Gakpo and Szobo and Ekitike and Wirtz play brilliant attacking football while he’s sitting on the bench. And by the time he gets in a game that is long done and dusted, his only substantive contribution was declining a tap in assist for Wirtz in favor of missing a goal that he usually puts in the back of the net. He’s a bit humiliated by that and perhaps a bit upset about how much stick he’s getting.
After all, he’s MOHAMED SALAH. The Egyptian Fucking King. One of the greatest players in not only this club’s storied history, but in the history of world football. You can make a legitimate argument that Mo is the best player in the history of the Premier League, and one of the greatest of all time in the first division. The underlying statistics show it.
So it’s hard to be treated like you’re no longer indispensable. And I get that. But he’s a 33 year old winger who relies on his pace. Look around world football. You don’t see a lot of wingers that age, let alone one whose pace was a major weapon. Add to that the fact that he effectively surrendered his defensive responsibilities (largely because of his age and declining pace), and he cannot have the same impact on a game-to-game basis.
The team has to plan for a future without him. He has to understand that. I’m almost certain that we gave him that extension with an eye towards selling him in Summer 2026.
I just hope he has a few more brilliant moments to cap his legendary career here.
Yes he is off form and on huge money and football wise, he shouldn’t be expecting to start every single match, Slot needs to look at his role objectively.
However, let’s not forget that this is a player who will go on to be a legend for us, if he is not already. Not just because he scores alot for us but because he believes in us. Yes he is on alot of wages but he could be on alot more if he had wanted to move to the Middle East. He saw potential in Slot’s era, he loves Liverpool and wants to further etch his mark in this club and city. He stayed when he could easily have left.
Agreed, this has been blown way out of proportion.
This isn’t the first time that he has behaved like this either; a couple of years ago he was having a back and forth with Klopp on the sideline, while waiting to be subbed in. Lots were ready to write the obituary of his Liverpool career then and lots are doing the same now, but I’ll have to see it, before I believe it.
At some point, he’ll find himself as will the team and everything will be back to normal with fans and pundits wondering if he should get another contract extension.
Mo is having a bad season as we all know (along with most of the team by the way) and he is absolutely not immune from criticism or from being benched. In my opinion Arne made the right call against Frankfurt to rest him and give someone else a chance. I was calling for it along with many others before the game and there’s nothing wrong with giving honest opinions on players.
But I want to say that love this man for what he’s done for this club and the loyalty he’s shown us. He will go down in history as one of the greats, because of his goals/assists and the trophies he played a major part in delivering. He has so much credit in the bank it’s untrue so I know that we’ll all sing his name louder than ever before and give him the support he deserves until he starts firing again! We don’t know how lucky we are to have had a player of his calibre for so many years, we may not have this luxury again. Let’s celebrate one of the best forwards we have ever had at this club and make sure he’ll never walk alone while he’s temporarily out of form. WE LOVE YOU MO!!!
