I understand this, and pretty much said the same this morning to friends. Winning the bid is only half the battle, you now have to agree terms with the player and convince him to come.
I am just saying when you offer the player for sale with a deadline to submit bids, the bids should stand. the player then decides, if he doesnt want to come to us, they can then accept the next offer.
Put it this way, if they do allow chelsea to match our bid now it makes a mockery of the next time they try and run this sort of sale, clubs will just wait until after the deadline, and then match the highest bid!!
Interesting how this will play out. Whatâs certain though is whichever club misses out, will have a big L next to them. All for different reasons.
Whether we sign Caicedo or not, I would still like to see Lavia brought in. Not that Iâve seen too much of him, but a very promising player by all accounts.
Wheras in business, he who pays the highest price tends to get the goods. Once this hit the news, Chelsea obviously contacted Brighton and offered more. Any rumoured comments or stories of âstanceâ of the player are to be taken with a pinch of salt until he actually says something. Although a player really should just STFU until itâs signed.
Brighton can not force Caicedo to sign for Liverpool.
Brighton can not keep Caicedo as it stands (persona non grata).
All Brighton can do if he refuses Liverpool, is to deal with Chelsea.
Brighton will want Chelsea to match the Liverpool bid, and if they can not afford it, then they need to add Colwill into the deal, which is what Brighton have wanted even before the transfer window opened.
I actually do not want him here, brilliant player, yet stupid antics and decisions have plagued him for quite a while.
If he does by some miracle sign, you can be assured that the PR damage control persons will be vomiting positive spin down our throats.
