Most hated pundit? Just saw this on a satire website:

Isn’t that Gobbels.

To be honest he knew about the art of communicating to the masses, just much of it was putrid shit.

Rio doesn’t.

Yeah, tbh, the skit wasn’t particularly funny, but the picture they used was the split of Rio. I think it’s the mouth.

I like to just say Richard Keys in case people forget.

I think most people would rather forget about his existence.

There was a clip of Keys and Gray on one of those “great British comedy pages” on FB and effectively it was “this couldn’t happen today” and it was just them two leering over some women showing off a kit.

About as funny as a workplace accident

Maybe the wrong thread… Not sure you can dislike this :0)

I caught part of a discussion about Man City on Radio 5 last night and what has gone wrong this season. Pretty sure I heard one of the guests say that he had every confidence Pep would sort it out and that he tipped them to regain the title in 26…

Just relistened and it was a guy called Rory Smith. Not heard of him but apparently from The Athletic.. Not familiar with that either..

Well they are never wrong are they… oh wait.

Rory Smith is quite good. I think he may have worked for the Times about 10 years ago.

‘‘Regrettably, from the point of view of the attention economy, a match only lasts 90 minutes – a pitifully small slice of the day. And so a whole universe of content – podcasts, TikTok and YouTube videos, Instagram reels, clips shared on X – has sprung up to fill the remaining minutes when football is not occurring. Sometimes, it can feel like football matches are played merely in order to provide the content for this great discourse machine.’’

One of the best pieces of the article and the most resonant, to me at least. It’s wall to wall and one of the reasons I have switched off from football in general aside from our actual games, that of a rival and laughing at United.

Same here, I genuinely can’t be bothered with any non-Liverpool football stuff. All the banter and what not is completely irrelevant to me, and honestly, turns me off quite a fair bit.

I also absolutely hate “commentary”, and I only ever watch games on mute, except when I have the option for stadium audio only. MOTD is reserved for when I’ve missed a game, and I just watch only the particular section dedicated to us.

I do like the crowd so don’t do that, although I have tried. I invariably draw the ire of the missus pretty much every game as I launch into a tirade against the commentators…

I did stop watching any English league games aside from us a few years ago, and I found that it improved my enjoyment no end.

I do agree with that whole thing about the content industry having taken over from the actual football. Even during the game, many of the action replays and commentary is about refereeing decisions, rather than trying to provide a better view and some insight to the actual action.

Having said that, I do tend to waste a huge amount of time on here. I suppose the difference is that everyone supports the same team and there is a common interest. Not dissimilar to talking nonsense to some fellow fan at the pub.

I do like the crowd, but I feel myself actively getting dumber when I listen to the commentary. My only exception for this rule of muting was against Spurs.

Sky Deutschland used to have a stadium noise only option on the second sound channel, but they changed that to English language commentators a couple of years ago. Having said that, I do tend to put that on because it has better stadium sound for some reason.

What I would love is vanilla coverage. Essentially, recreating the match day experience, so you get a single fixed panning camera in the Main Stand, no action replays, no commentary, but full stadium sound including Tannoy announcements and pre-match music.

One alternative I did like was something that they tried out during the pandemic empty stadium matches. There was a Bayern vs BVB match and they had a fan from either team providing the “commentary”. It was a proper fan reaction and, frankly, hilarious. I think they didn’t do it again as they were quite sweary.
