Naby KEITA: 2020/21

Bournemouth are the usual mugs we take money off. They should be good for £20 million

Then let’s all join in prayer for their promotion.

They usually sign our young English talent, doubt we can flog them Keita, that statement and then come the weekend he is injured again.

Seriously, the agent can get Fucked.

His agent needs to keep his trap shut, ruined by injuries poor Naby.

The club shut him down and give him extended time to rehab his injuries properly to get him right. Goes and plays for national team, all good, plays one half in CL then mysteriously picks up an injury in training. His agent saying on Twitter if he plays tonight Liverpool win 100%. Something strange going on.

Well we didn’t need him anyhow.

Maybe he wasn’t injured he probably wouldn’t have played anyhow.

Even Edwards can be duped, he is human after all.

I think he will keep agueing that Keita does all the right things. What would be interesting is to know what he feels about injuries and how statistics might be used to 'calculate that side of things.

Well, some players are built for the intensity Klopp wants us to play and some like Keïta are not.

When he moves to a less intensive league like the Italian and plays for instance Milan, he could be playing excellent every week.

The PL and especially Liverpool (are or is it is) not for everybody.

Some people over 50 play ‘walking’ football, with no physical contact. I think that could be the way to go for Keita.

If remains with us for next season, I hope Klopp plays him extensively in August, so that he is injured and unavailable for NT games in Sep-Oct.

The weird thing is that he played for a very, very intense side under Ralph at Leipzig and in not a too shabby league. That was part of the attraction with Naby, a player who can play in both directions. Create, take people out of the game, break lines on and off the ball, be involved in the attacking aspects, but also defend/press (mostly press). Of course, it’s not England or Spain, but still a serious level. But then exactly that England and Liverpool factor just seemed like it was another level. Started really well (when Fabinho par example didn’t, but he settled), but then found it harder to cope with the physical aspect, lost a bit of confidence and those injuries. Last spring it seemed like he turned the corner a little bit, just like in 2019 when he got injured again at the Nou Camp.

I’m saying with a player of his natural capabilities, it’s not totally over yet. Which is why Klopp is/was patient with him (and no, not every player can get that patience, a bit like Kewell under Rafa, though he was even more injured), though Klopp is generally a more patient manager and Liverpool how they work under FSG, we simply can’t change dozen players every summer just because someone didn’t settle initially (luckily, we mostly got it right under Klopp, in that buying/using balance). Again, it’s not FM. He might never be the £50m most important midfielder type for us, but hopefully if he stays here a little longer he can be a pretty good one. What I want to say is that I have absolutely no problem with the deal in the context of time. Keita, Thiago, the name doesn’t matter. We need also a bit of that style/quality. Before them and after them.

I think Keita is the example of the difference in intensity/physicality of German and English League. He was a regular in his two seasons with Leipzig. But then Werner or Havertz isn’t having any fitness problem since switching leagues.

I guess he has some frailties that’s become obvious in a more demanding environment. But for me it’s his mentality that’s the biggest issue. I just don’t feel he has the drive to lockdown his place in the squad and just happy to flutter around the fringes.

What evidence do you have to support that theory?

His performance against Madrid was pretty damning.

I have been recently wondering if he is £ for £ the worst LFC signing ever?

Some of the other ones I can think of, we have recouped a significant part of their transfer fee back, or they have actually done something useful in a red shirt.

Andy fucking Carroll though.

Lazar Markovic left of a free.
