I thought he would run Nat ragged but overall Nat did well against him

Allison came to his rescue a couple of times, he actually got back once to recover after he was overtaken.

I’d keep him for next season as 4th choice CB over Kabak. Save the 20 million. I’ve been really impressed with him, slightly more than Kabak. Helps being English and homegrown aswell.

4th choice? And who would be your 5th choice?

Neither of them should be 4th choice with the injury problems of our first 3. We should be looking at better.

… and not imo a youngster. A solid mature backup please.

Probably good enough for 5th choice.

Our 4th choice actually has to be one of Matip/ Gomez given their availability. The second choice CB place is what we need to fill in on priority. And even third choice if Matip leaves. I know neither Matip nor Gomez would be off this summer, but having a stable CB partnership is key and we can’t have that given Gomez/ Matip’s fitness issues. Also, neither of Gomez/ Matip deserve to be fourth choice given their quality, but sadly that’s how it is given their injury concerns.

Fabinho??

I just wouldn’t keep him, I actually think Rhys Williams as far more potential and I don’t particularly rate him, I really don’t think he has been playing that well effectively when your comparing him with Kabak your saying is he worth 18m well no nethier of them are but I do feel Kabak has been the better of the two by a margin, often where a gap appears it’s where Phillips should be, Fabinho was sitting in his role several times yesterday.

No enough.

Minimum should be

VvD Kabak Gomez Matip Phillips

Perfect would be

VvD Konate Gomez Matip Kabak

Would keep Nat over Rhys but both of them only as 5th choice.

Nat is a beast physically. Rhys might be good on the ball. Both a too slow for the level of football we want to play - Rhys is even slower than Nat.

1A. van Dijk 1B. Konaté [or equivalent]
2. Matip
3. Gomez
4. Davies
5. R. Williams
6. Fabinho

You are not getting that many CB.

Van Den Berg and Koumetio will probably play a game before Davies.

That’s one in, one out.

What Phillips gives us is an aerial presence on defensive set piece’s, remember how bad we were before big Virg and with Nat there we aren’t as susceptible. So for me Nat with our relatively small team is needed more than Kabak in Virg’s absence. I do feel Kabak is better in his positioning and challenging on the ground though
