I would not keep Phillips or Williams both far too slow and not near the quality needed to challenge at the top.
That is part of Fabs role which he does for Matip and Gomez. Thatâs really not a/the problem.
Yet no we can not âmake doâ with Phillips.
Your joking right Rhys is still learning. Next season he plays the cup games or goes out on loan, which ever the coaching staff decide. Thatâs why I donât think we should be in for a young CB as Gomez isnât old either.
Edit, Rhys hasnât filled out yet he might become a beast and be a bit quicker, who knows?
⌠and I keep forgetting we have him on our books!
He has some good qualities and he will improve Iâm sure.
But he is slow as fuck and that canât really be trained.
It can, as can agility and other physical tributes to an extent. However I did make the point that Rhys hasnât filled out yet that gives even more potential as he could become faster and more agile. I knew a kid at school that was slow ungainly the complete opposite of sportive yet at 20 he was playing for thr colts in rugby as winger and went on to play for the senior team in the same position. He completely transformed physically.
Thatâs one reason why you hold onto players with technical ability along with that as they gain experience they get better. The decission to let go comes later.
Nat Phillips is a 24-year old with 30 odd games in his career. To keep him as 5th or 6th option makes no sense whatsoever, from all parties. And heâs not good enough to be 4th.
Time for him to go somewhere and basically start his career at the level heâs supposed to be at, make a living from playing football and enjoy as long as he can.
This is not his level.
Itâs a nice story, but it ends here.
In an ordinary season a 5th choice CB barely plays. That wouldnât be fair to Nat. In fact, I doubt if any team has a senior player as 5th choice CB. In an extra ordinary season a 5th choice CB will play a lot. That wouldnât be fair to Nat and us.
He has done us a great service and have in turn improved his profile as well. He can be a regular with a PL team that isnât too adventurous/doesnât play with a high line. Do I hear a 5 mil plus another 5 mil in add-ons!!! Edwards, over to you mate.
After what happened this season our club should take no risk.
We went into this season with 3 CBs. Next season it has be 5 CBs.
If we buy two CBs (Kabak + Konate) sell Nat and Davies. If we buy just one we should keep Nat (at least until January).
Couldnât care less if he doesnât play at all.
We donât know when VvD, Gomez and Matip will return and when they will be back at 100%.
This is what Phillips brings to the team and no other CB currently available can bring the same. We have missed Virgil for all sorts of reasons but the first and most obvious reason was that we suddenly looked very weak defending set pieces or any kind of high ball. Phillips never will be a regular CB in a Liverpool team beyond this season but he wins everything in the air and that is reason enough to have him on the pitch right now. It closes off one very obvious line of attack for the opposition.
I just think thereâs not enough between them to spend that extra 18 m on Kabak. Both are slow. Nats good in the air, and Kabak is slightly better on the ground. Phillips also Wnfkish which is handy. Think we should get Konate as a swap out for Matip.
Wankfish?
Sounds kinky.
(Yes, we know you mistyped English )
Serves you all right having those silly QWERTY keyboards. That would never happen to me I know how to type Znfkisg.
Omg shows I should proof read. Itâs been 5 hours, canât edit now lol
Phillips should be held until we get a better CB (e.g., Konate, etc.) both from a negotiating standpoint and from a contingency standpoint. But we should really be making all efforts to improve on him and to allow him to go out and build a career. He deserves that.
Nat is at an age where he should play and he might be able to make it at a bottom half PL team. He has been playing at the level of a respectable Premier League player, but not one we would be linked with if he wasnât ours already.
Credit where itâs due. he has definitely upped his passing game.
I liked that he wasnât afraid to use his left foot against Real. He did it several times where he trapped the ball with one foot and quickly passed with the other.
Some of his passing last night was brilliant.
Yeah, I liked those precise and progressive along the ground passes with pace into one of our midfielders.
I said after the Arsenal game that his passing was starting to remind me of Matip, the way he zips them into the midfield and forwards. Seriously underated part of his game. Both CBs did well last night although they had much better protection from a vastly improved midfield performance.
I think he is a much better player than many posters give him credit for. For me he has improved almost every game. People claiming he isnât good with the ball at his feet are wrong. Last night I thought he looked really comfortable and passed the ball really well. I am convinced he will play a part next season.
