Nathaniel PHILLIPS: 2021/22 (on loan at Bournemouth)

Origi has done plenty for the club and created memories that will last a lifetime, there’s no questioning that. His past is not the reason why fans want him out, it’s what he has or hasn’t done recently that is the reason we want to see the back of him.

If Div put in the same effort as Phillips, he would be fighting it out for a regular place, but he hasn’t shown any interest or hunger for at least two seasons now.

No he wouldn’t. He still wouldn’t be anywhere near good enough to dislodge the starters even with some of them out of form. Like with Tsimikas and Neco Williams.

What do you mean 'Like with Tsimikas?

Neco is a player that puts in a lot of effort!

In fact this discussion is becoming dire!

Yes Tsimikas and Neco could turn out to be great players.

Tsimikas and Williams seem to put the effort in but they still aren’t anywhere near the level of Alexander-Arnold and Robertson even when the two starters have had shaky form. So Origi would be in the same boat. The idea that Origi would be fighting for a regular place if he was putting in the effort Phillips does doesn’t reflect the reality of what really happens in this squad in similar situations. For what it’s worth, despite the effort Phillips puts in, he also wouldn’t be getting much/any game time if VvD, Gomez and Matip were all fit either.

Its not just effort. Think back of why players succeed/fail.

Aquilani/Kewell/Ings (fitness), Karius (mental fortitude), Sahko/Diouf (attitude), Adam (mobility), Balotelli/Babel (application), Suso/Keane (timing/luck), Konchesky (talent/dickhead) Poulsen (pace), Morientes /Litmanen(wrong system). There is an element of luck, there is an element of timing. Carragher could easily have been a mid-level player, same for Andy Robertson. Suso could have flourished here under a different manager.

For me one of the biggest components is the mental side. Being able to cope playing in front of 60,000. To pick up and not let it affect you. Lovren openly admitted this is where he struggled. Other players thrive. Its difficult to judge players in the current environment. Its like judging them from preseason games. Its artificial.

I think the reality is we should be thankful that Nat stepped up. Done enough to earn 5/6th place backup. He has had luck on his side, but fair play to him he has made the most of his abilities and grasped the opportunity. Not good enough to be a starting player, but he adds depth in a place we need it. We absolutely need 1 or 2 move CBs though in the summer.

Ahh, I get it now. I wonder where Robertson would be if Moreno hadn’t gotten injured?
I don’t see where that fits in with Tsimikas we’ve seen soo little of him and we know Klopp runs players into the ground before resting them.
Nat has and shouldn’t have a chance however I sometimess wonder where Origi could have got to if he had worked hard and been more agressive, certainly had the talent technically.

Not good enough for the super league.

Why wasn’t he involved yesterday night? Hopefully not because of injury?

A hamstring injury, not sure how serious it is.

I totally missed that one! So, not even our sixth/seventh/whatever center back can stay fit for a while then? Geez…

According to the club it’s a ‘minor’ hamstring injury.

So that’s the last we’ll see of him this season.

Yeah says minor so that’s the season for him

Release the Davies!

That was my first thought as well.

Yeah, he needs his hamstring done too before the end of the season, otherwise it will be a blip in the matrix.

We’ll have to put him out there for a game or two, maybe even 45 minutes, to show him to the market for this summer.

:joy:
