If utd play a full strength team Phillips will get exposed.
Exposed to what, Rashfordās granny?
Own goal. Redemption, attacking everything in United half. Messi mode on - dribbles and wanted to score but got an assist. Cleared the ball off the line at 3-2. Well done lad.
Phillips is probably the only player who can get robbed off possession in his own box, āclearā a ball off the line that was going wide straight back into in the 6 yard box and get praised for it
Needs to stop wondering up the pitch, we were punished for it on their second goal.
Defensively not good tonight but that assist was magic.
Have to post this here too
That own goal could have happen to any CB in the world.
For me no fault of Nat, it was poor tracking and positioning of Gini and Fab that gave the opportunity for Fernandez to have so much uch space
Nat is so humble. He openly admitted that he misjudged the ball.
I hope this lad gets to play at Anfield on the final day in front of fans because the crowd are going to love him. Needs a song. Heās had a fantastic season.
A quality CB doesnāt stay so deep or attack that one (or if he does, he manages a better contact). Although it was primarily poor defending from Fabinho.
Donāt understand the love for him, he had a mediocre game v united, put ball in own net due to lack of awareness got caught out of position a few times and lucky not to concede, standards have really dropped.
The amount of times we have heard this rationale and mental gymnastics this season is laughable.
Not sure why he can be absolved of blame for the own goal. He should definitely have done better. Also I donāt think he will be a mainstay in our side, like partnering VVD as highlighted somewhere.
Having said that, given the expectations we had from him, heās done more than enough. For a 5th/ 6th choice CB I wouldnāt have expected any more than that.
So what I say is not true?
What shite are you talking about mental gymnastics your reply IMO is a load of bollox
For the love of Nat, canāt we have a disagreement about football here without turning into pricks?
Have to agree, that ball was goal bound(e may have misjudged it but he was there,we all make mistakes, that was one for Nat,but Iām not thinking crucifixion over it.
Given he got thrown in at the deep end a while ago,he has done alright.
Yes, itās getting ridiculous. There was a post saying that he is the embodiment of Liverpool.
His efforts and application are commendable but they donāt obscure his very obvious limitations.
That just about sums Nat up. He has his limitations, and under normal circumstances he would never come close to being in the first team. But he has come in and done his best which is all we should ask.
Anyway, his time in the first team will come to an end on the 23rd May, so only three games left to praise / pillory him.
What I donāt understand is why so many people are getting upset because others want to praise him. Itās like people who do are idiots who canāt see that heās a limited player who makes mistakes. I know heās a limited player. Nat knows heās a limited player. This is precisely the point. He started the season as 6th choice CB and has ended it as a mainstay of the defence. Even if his only contribution is that heās allowed Fabinho to play in midfield then thatās good enough for me.
Heās making mistakes because heās being asked to play in exactly the same way as Gomez or Matip, and heās nowhere near the level of these guys. JK hasnāt compromised with him (or Rhys W) at all. Part of me thinks thatās bonkers but a bigger part of me thinks thatās the genius of Klopp. Itās why heās the best coach in the world at developing players and why he consistently turns good players into great players and, in the case of Nat, a below average player into an average player.
Phillips gives his all and that is all we can ask of the lad at this injury plagued time. If praising him to high heavens on the forum adds a single ounce of confidence and self-belief to his displays, then as fans we have done our bit for Jurgen and LFCā¦
