Nathaniel PHILLIPS: 2021/22 (on loan at Bournemouth)

Given the fitness records of Gomez and Matip, Nat would be the fourth and a half CB

He’d be a bit mad to leave I think. In all honesty he could probably turn this run in the team into a move to someone like Burnley but that would be the peak of his post-Liverpool career as he inevitably is phased out from Premier League football and drops into the Championship where is he probably belongs in terms of his natural ability.

I’m not knocking him, just being realistic. He’s not the reincarnation of Sami Hyypia, he’s a lad with a lot of passion, bravery and willingness to learn but limited talent. It’s great but sooner or later he will drop out of Premier League football.

Stay here and have a cushy life of playing 5 games a season for another season or two before you start that descent. I don’t imagine playing at Scunthorpe away is as exciting once you’ve started home games at Anfield or away at Old Trafford.

The form of Nat Phillips at the heart of the Liverpool defence in the last few months has convinced the club that he has a big role to play next season.

Prefer that he stays,he will be down the pecking order but with Matip injury prone, who knows where Gomez is at the moment,Nat would get a bit if football ,and playing alongside VVD wont do him any harm at all.
He is a natural old fashioned,if you like centre half, afraid of absolutely nothing, strong in the air,we have seen that.
At the moment he has some limitations, but sometimes these can be tidied up.
Puts in 100% everytime…give him more time,if he wants it!

Who is Kevin Palmer. :joy:

He’s the journalist who mostly covered Southampton and then got pretty much everything wrong about the Van Dijk saga.

Yeah, sounds like good credentials to know in May about Liverpool’s convictions for next season.

It’s not an easy one to call. He could play every week for a team that will never win anything or he could play 5 to 10 games a season (or more depending on injuries) for a team that could challenge for trophies every year.

I know I’d choose the latter, but then I support Liverpool.

Maybe his dream is just to play for Bolton for the next 10 years?

This is part of an interview from 2017:

ā€œWith the university I was going to, they were drafting, in general, at least one lad a year,ā€ Phillips continued. "They were a good standard of football team as well. I was happy with that side of things.

"It was more a case of it being a safer option for me because I would have had a degree at the end of it.

"But it was an opportunity that you just can’t turn down. If I’d have gone out to America, I would have always had in the back of my head ā€˜What would have happened if I’d have gone to Liverpool?’

"Whereas if I see my contract out here and things don’t work out for me as planned, then I don’t think I’ll ever have that in the back of my head. It was ā€˜I came here, I gave it my best and I don’t have any regrets.’ That’s the way I’ve looked at it really.

Fast forward 4 years later. From your options, I’d bet he’d again choose the latter option. No regrets.

So when sweat wasn’t enough, the lads spilled blood, their own blood. Salut. :muscle:

If he wants to stay I’d have him, evidently he would be more secure next to a VVD type defender.

I think we need 5 CB’s anyhow, what with 3 of them missing most of this season and Konate not looking particularly a 30+ game a season player

I do think that he will have quite good PR/commercial value at least for the next season, after what he had done last season and due to the fact that he is a homegrown Academy graduate. His popularity among fans is very high for a borderline Championship-level sub player like him.

Your way with words is quite something.

I have fixed it

Another reason why Phillips will likely be kept and Kabak was not bought is the homegrown rules.
