Nathaniel PHILLIPS: 2021/22 (on loan at Bournemouth)

Yeah if your treating him as 5th choice and that seems to be the case it’s good to have the player as homegrown.

Nat Phillips the only Liverpool player to have :100:% win record during last 10 games of the season?

Definitely justified a new contract and place in the squad next season, more so with the fitness record of our other centre backs

again, i love the story but im a little concerned hes not a ‘drop in, perform’ centre half like Klavan… hes more Lovren where he needs a run of games.

i hope he does whats right by Nat Phillips the footballer here, not Nat Phillips bank account.

his life story is more important

All very well and good except that we didn’t win the last 10 games of the season.

Nats did not play in those 2 draws.

It also depends on how fast VVD and Gomez recover their forms. Gomez often took months in previous years, while VVD has never gone through such a long injury before. So, it is entirely possible that both Phillips and Williams will have a role to play in the early phase of the next season. I can see a Phillips-Konate pair or Konate-Williams pair in some of the first league/cup matches (or even Phillips-Williams in cup matches).

Exactly my point

Ergo, he cant have won his last ten games to have a 100% record.

Mate, I think he’s simply saying that Nat’s personal win record during our last ten games of the season was 100%. That’s accurate. Every game he played in (8), of those last ten games, he/we won.

I know Mail is crap, gossip magazine, but they are reporting that Burnley are interested in him.

And this is the choice.

Play every week for Burnley (or similar) and never win anything, maybe even potentially get relegated.

or play as 5th choice for Liverpool (whatever that looks like) under Klopp with a possibilty of Champions League action and potential silverware.

For me it’s not even a choice, but it’s not something that would surprise me if he chose Burnley.

Missing out a few things with that there.

Play for Burnley or similar week in week out, stand an outside chance of an England call up or two, get to talk about how many appearances you get during your career after retirement, maybe even get signed by a better club (not too far off Maguire technically and he was bought for a fortune) and get paid more money, quite likely significantly more.

Stay at Liverpool as emergency cover, no chance of playing enough for an England call up, get a lot less appearances during your career, probably eventually replaced by an academy graduate meaning having to move on eventually but by then being a distant memory with possibly Championship the best you can hope for and generally end up paid a lot less. Oh and maybe pick up some winners medals but sheepishly have to accept you likely did very little to earn them.

We often go on about players wanting to play and we need some players to see our squad as a good enough option regardless of the lack of playing time it means but Phillips really could launch a pretty decent career after this season, it’s probably going to be a small window of opportunity for him to maximise on. For his own good I kind of hope he moves on this summer or the winter after whilst his stock is high enough for a Prem side. He could have only dreamed of a Prem side being interested last summer. He didn’t even have that much Championship interest.

That’s about his level but he won’t be getting the protection he gets here from their midfield.

Let’s not forget that all 3 CBs are still recovering and we don’t know exactly when they will be able to play, and Gomez is expected to recover first. This means, in worst case, Van Dijk and Matip may not be able to play the first Premier League matches and we all know that Gomez often take months to recover his form after injury.

So, we will still need Phillips next season.

Not convinced tipping Nat out, unless he wants to go is a great idea.
The injury record of Matip and Gomez without touching Konate’s,would have the potential of getting us into a similar position the we were for most of the last season.
They have told Kabak they are not pursuing him,so cutting Nat is nuts!

He’s got way more of a chance getting an England call up being a Liverpool bench player than a starter at Burnley. It takes a proper special talent to get into the national team from one of the lesser fancied clubs. Whereas any player who’s English who plays for united will get a call up regardless of how shite they are.
