New book about Heysel

I read an interesting e-book about Heysel. It’s written by a Blue and he clearly covers all angles. It’s called “Heysel Stadium Brussels: European Football’s Darkest Hour.” Definitely worth a read.

Yeah I mean, if anyone can be objective about the Heysel disaster, it’s an Everton fan in an eBook.

The only things that need to be said objectively about that clusterfuck is: Neither club wanted to play there for saftey reasons. It was a fucking shit pit. ‘We’ got blamed for something that was previsible and both clubs pleaded to have the venue changed as the whole setup was catastrophic. No big games should ever have or be played in Belgium because of it!

Self-promotion?

What also gets overlooked is that Arsenal had flagged up issues with Haysel stadium in 80/81 after they played there, and nothing got done.

Exactly the same situation with the semi final held at Hillsborough the year or two before 1989. Were Spurs involved?

There was several reports of Hillsborough having issues, I think Spurs flagged it up as well early in the 1980s
