No approaches have yet been made with regard to Iraola’s potential coaching staff, but the 43-year-old Spaniard is keen on bringing his assistant at Bournemouth, Tommy Elphick, a lifelong Liverpool fan, with him.

Some of our best players were childhood Blues. I don’t care who they support as long as they are ace at their job.

Liverpool want to be an aggressive, front-foot team led by someone who is all in, whose identity is intensity, who will immerse himself in the club through to the academy, and whose hard-working character will endear him to the city. That’s Andoni Iraola.

Yes, there are risks. There usually always are bar very rare circumstances. Jürgen Klopp thought he was a risk because he had never worked outside of Germany.

Looking at win percentages as a mark of appointing a new head coach/manager is nonsense. Klopp would have never been approached by Bayern Munich or joined Borussia Dortmund in that case.

Luis Enrique would have never gone from Celta to Barcelona.

It’s about what they’ve achieved relative to means, scaling that, plus their stylistic fit to the club and its ambitions.

Spike (assistant), Gio (assistant) and Peters (physical performance) are leaving and so will need to be replaced.

We don’t know how Briggs’ responsibilities in analysis were filled in when he was moved to being a dedicated set piece guy, but it is possible someone needs to be added there either in analysis or as a set piece guy.

The rest of the (extensive) coaching and back room structure will still be in place

"I just love when managers walk their way to the top, there’s a sense of achievement and deservedness. After his playing career at Bilbao, and retiring in the US, Iraola took a bold step to go to AEK Larnaca in Cyprus to coach, he proved himself immediately by winning the cup.

He came back home in Spain to Mirandes, they were in the Segunda division and he dragged them to the semi finals of Copa Del Rey, while beating few La Liga teams on the way. He moved to Rayo Vallecano, also in the Segunda and promoted them to La Liga.

The crazy thing about him is that he has a known style of play and very adaptable too. Rayo got to the final of the Conference league this season, its not a fluke because guess who their coach is? Yes, Iñigo Pérez, who was Iraola’s assistant. Bill Foley, Bournemouth’s owner and the Bournemouth hierarchy like Richard Hughes wanted to play in a particular way, they had been monitoring Iraola for a long time, eventually, they found out that he was available, they grabbed him so quick, sacking Gary O’Neil who had just saved them from relegating.

Iraola took Bournemouth to Europe for the first time in their history, while losing top players like Semenyo, Huijsen, Zabarnyi, Solanke, and many more, on the way. Liverpool players should be ready because he is a very demanding coach. Semenyo once said that immediately Iraola arrived at Bournemouth, they were training Monday to Sunday, something he’d never experienced before.

The mastermind behind this move is Richard Hughes, he was the Technical Director at Bournemouth, he sacked Gary O’Neil for Iraola. He is now the Sporting Director at Liverpool, he has just sacked Slot for Iraola again😅.

He knows the Iraola train passes only once. Congratulations to Andoni, I’m one of his biggest fans, and I think he suits Liverpool. Liverpool fans are going to see some serious high and aggressive hybrid pressing, they’re also going to see some vertical and direct football which they’re quite used to under Klopp and Slot’s first season. When they win the ball back, Iraola hates backward passes, he wants the ball played forward asap, in summary, quick transitions. I’m excited, are you?"

I believe Inigo Perez only took the job at Rayo because he couldn’t get a work permit to work at Bournemouth.

The shout back to O Neil being let go is an interesting one. Lots of people in the game really rate him and there was a sense of it being harsh that he was let go. It was similar to when Southampton let Adkins go half way through their first season back in the prem after 2 successive promotions and doing ok. In both cases, forward thinking directors were aware of an unusual talent (Poch being the other) who was available and willing to move and so let go of a perfectly adequate incumbent because it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

He’s already got an office with his name on it (or a door leading to somewhere named after him).
