Didn’t know much about this bloke until yesterday.
But how does he handle the presser pressure?
Starting with the first one. Who will forget the great Klopp as the normal one inspiring us all with the doubter to believer. How will Iraola come across…
Then of course the intensity following a loss or a run of poor form.
I didn’t realize Ekitike was out until next year so we may need a CF to help Isak. Iraola has had Solanke and Evanilson at the top of his systems. I wonder if he would want another thicc-boy to bully CBs.
I think the perfect signing for a big boy would be Samu Aghehowa at Porto but they want clubs to match the 100m release clause.
I think it matters. There is very little capacity for a manager to have a positive influence in their public appearances, and very few people who can do it like Klopp. But any manager needs to be conscious that there is a LOT of room for doubts to be sowed by poor media performances. With Slot most of this came from inconsistencies in what he was saying - either saying things that appeared contradictions to what he had said previously, or saying things that were impossible to reconcile with what we were seeing. That as much as the results and the bad football is what pushed people into a lack of confidence that Slot had it in him to turn it around.
Toi that point Iraola doesn’t need to be an entertainer, he just needs to present a clear vision for what we’re doing and be credible when speaking and he’ll be ok.
Edit
Just like when he was a player, Iraola has superstitions. He tapes his right index finger and left middle finger before games. He has described this as “stupidity” in the past, but it suggests a man who is ritualistic and driven by habits.
I think Gakpo will share the workload with Isak and we should focus on buying wingers. A cheap option could be Mateta — available for around £30m. But my dream is Danns.
Very important as fans we are patient. Much like how the dna of Klopps team gave Slot a big head start in the route to the title, it’s now a shadow of that.
The players are in for a rough time when you consider Iraolas methods and intensity in training.
But that is exactly what we need. This club is built on fast, ruthless, attacking football.
