My opinion is Kabak is ok. Just ok. He can’t be the only signing at CB. We need better. If we get Konate or another marquee CB signing. Then I’m ok with adding Kabak also…
One weakness I see with Kabak is set plays. Heading to be more precisely.
Both Firmino and Kabak were terrible on the equalizer against Leeds on that set play… Need a CB more commanding in the air.
He’s okay that’s what I reckon. I think he’s even enough with Phillips. So we might aswell save the 20 or so million while having an homegrown player on less wage (presumably) anyways.
Agree with saving the 20 million. But don’t forget we still have Matip. Who I doubt we will be able to offload… But also he is a great CB. And if not overused could stay relatively injury free ( hopefully). And he and Gomez 3rd and 4th options. With Phillips 5th. And Fabinho as emergency only…
That’s the way I see it. So don’t really need Kabak as long as the threesome of VVD Gomez and Matip come back fully fit from injury.
20 million isn’t some exorbitant amount, in the grand scheme of things, specially if it gives you some much needed cover in a crucial position. I feel Matip will be off-loaded (he is already 30) next season and we need these young players for future.
I think he will try get Matips wages off the bill and what ever fee we get for him. He was a free transfer so he’s probably on a big wage. We are a club that are tight enough with our wages so this will be taken into account imo
Of course 20 million is not a huge amount. But we aren’t a club that throws around money like the plastic clubs. It has to be right buy for us.
…If you have read anything I’ve wrote. You would see I have no problem buying Kabak. It all depends on whats happening with our injured CB threesome.
It’s not throwing money and definitely not mimicking the Plastic Clubs. It’s necessary rebuilding. We need 2 CB, 2 CM, and 1 possibly 2 CF. In my view the clubs is ready to splash out 120-150 millions for these essential acquisitions.
You may argue that this whole amount could/would be spread over two summers. However, if we have the option to buy Ozan for a very decent price, why should we pass that up and potentially splurge more, for him or another CB, next summer?
That handball rule (any handball writes off a goal) was terrible in today’s case. That was in reality a goal or perhaps even a penalty for Newcastle with Kabak’s tackle on Wilson.
It’s an awful rule, but it’s a bit revisionist for people to now pretend it is only an issue of VAR and something no one asked for. This interpretation has been in place for several years now and is one of the recent changes there was actually a lot of support for.
Does anyone remember the furor of Luis scoring one pretty similar to the disallowed one today, celebrating with his go to wrist kissing and people losing their shit over the dirty foreigner rubbing it in everyone’s face that he scored illegally with his hand? I think it was an FA cup game. A lot of the momentum for this rule change came from there.
At our best, we play with a high line, to enable a high press style. Kabak has improved since his debut, but he did not look comfortable with the high line in today’s game, despite overall doing the basics well.
If that’s the case, then Klopp won’t go ahead with the signing. He lacks pace, which was one of the things the reports said he had when we got him.
Today, in the first half, he messed up the offside trap allowing 2 barcodes to run on on goal. If we play like this against the scum next week, we’ll get spanked.
Did well to recover after they messed up, but if he wants a permanent move, he needs to get up to speed with the high line.
Looks far more comfortable playing with Nat in a deep line, but next season, we won’t be playing that way.
Rather we keep Nat for the 5th choice, and bring him on in the game like today in injury time just for his headers and blocks. A plan B defensive player I suppose to see out a final few minutes.
I prefer him to Phillips he’s far better with the ball on the floor and bringing it out of defence, next season we will have Virgil back to head it clear.
