Ozan KABAK: 2020/21

I wonder if other clubs are getting interested as well.

He should have no problems finding a new club of certain level. I bet Schalke are already counting without him with them preparing for Bundesliga II. I just donā€™t think it will be Liverpool and now.

Personally I think we will activate the clause.

For Schalke it would be a catastrophe if we donā€™t. Because other clubs would try to get him even cheaper.

Then why wouldnā€™t we try and negotiate a lower fee?

Which is maybe also why we wonā€™t do it. :joy:

I think the first big indication was categorically rejecting the idea of obligation to buy, we were prepared to walk away from the player. Who knows what wouldā€™ve happened then, since Davies is yet to earn a single second on the pitch. Maybe this level is simply too much for him, even in training.

I think weā€™re buying a Konate or someone similar this summer and thatā€™s it (at CB). In a normal summer after a good season, if we had a bit of ā€œcash to spareā€ (sounds weird), we might do it. Now, I donā€™t think we can afford to play these games and we really need to maximize every penny for the 3 players we need this summer.

What would be our case for that?

The player is starting games. The player is doing well.

Schalke are going down but it already looked like that when we agreed to loan the player.

We either activate the option to buy or we wonā€™t - anything else would look classless.

Yeah, I donā€™t think itā€™s a case of Liverpool showing class or no class towards Schalke. We all mind our own business. Thereā€™s a pretty fair deadline, which is mid-Maand, so around a month left to activate it.

Not at all. If anything Iā€™d say it would make us look like mugs If we donā€™t at least try to renegotiate the price. All the option does is put a maximum price on him if we decide to make it permanent.

He was always going to be one for the future, just the fact we had so many injuries and needed a CB heā€™s got his chance now.I think its still yo early to play him in our first team on a regular basis,as heā€™s still young and raw, with a few mistakes he needs to iron out of his game, that will come with time and experience,iā€™d personally buy him and loan him out next season when VVD and Gomez come back, then see how he improves a year later.

I agree. He must be carrying an injury.

I think he has made himself quite marketable during his time with Liverpool.

Yep proper balls to stick with your team mates. Clearly got a backbone the kid, bodes well for him and his future career here.

Wonā€™t go unnoticed by Klopp either.

Iā€™m suspect about him still tbh. Heā€™s not tall or quick. Surely if your going to be a shorter centre back youā€™d want to be rapid. Anyways I wouldnā€™t be against signing him as 4th choice but we shouldnā€™t trigger his clause , we should let him go back and then come in again to get him for cheaper. They need the money bad and he wants to go anyways.

Agree with some of this, however he has been seen to be excellent at winning his ground duels

Will probably be a nice goodbye gift for the lad in a few weeks.

Just tells you how big this club is.

Got a feeling heā€™s staying.

Van Dijk, Kabak, Gomez and a new signing (maybe Konate). One of Phillips, Davies and Matip as emergency cover depending on what offers we get with Williams on loan. If we get offers too good to turn down for all 3 then Williams as the emergency cover.

Kabak and the new guy form a partnership to start the season with whilst VvD gets slowly reintroduced and brought back up to full fitness and speed. Then some proper rotation among them 3 so nobody is getting put under too much pressure. When Gomez comes back he gets the slow reintroduction and bringing up to speed treatment too.

From the matches that Kabak has played so far, I thought he did really well in herding the opposition strikers away from goal most of the time.

sheeple herding GIF

Wonder if, with Schalke now gone and Ozzy having settled we go back to Schalke and renegotiate. Getting wages off the books will be a real issue for them so they may be willing to accept a few quid less if he digs his heals in a bit.

Would be a shame to see him go as heā€™s looked decent next to Phillips so I imagine playing alongside Virg will make him look like Nesta.

I think we should do that. We have the control imo, hopefully heā€™s enjoyed his time here and wants the move. Think he actually supports Liverpool aswell. If he demands he wants to be sold this summer to Liverpool why not let him finish this loan and donā€™t activate that 20 million fee but come in with say a 10 million offer. They are desperate arenā€™t they not??? We are not really, Edwards has the control here, we already bought Konate he can be saying, and have other centre halfā€™s ready to sign
