But I leave the possibility of us changing our minds in next months when we get a clearer picture where the injured players are at. I still think our focus will be on one proper CB rather than two. We also have other needs and we had a tough year and season. Need to be a bit realistic what we can pull off.
I also think a lot of fans are pretty paranoid about injured players in general. The talk is always a bit darker than is really is when players come back from injury. I mean, someone like Matip will never be Sami Hyypia in terms of availability, but it’s like we wrote him off already in his first season. And, no shit, he still played football in the meantime.
I don’t think we’re buying an Aquilani with Konate, but yeah, some question marks over how much football he played in last years are valid. On the other side, we’re talking about the period when he was 18-22 years old. We probably think we could raise him to a new level.
I hope we get a decent little offer for Nat this summer. Nothing unrealistic, but to cash in and all parties can move on. Would be best for all. Possibility that he remains for one more season and then leaves when he has a year left in the summer of 2022.
I was pretty sure that Nat will leave this summer. But I don’t think we will start the next season with just four CB. Maybe Klopp thinks one of the youth players can do the emergency job.
However, under no circumstances I want to see Fabinho or Henderson playing CB.
Yeah, imagine running away from the 20 year Gerrard because of his then fitness issues.
For Kabak he looks like a perfectly decent defender who’s done a decent job. I’ve seen only fleeting glimpses of a player though who looks good enough to make you think you build a title winning defense around him.
Wish he was fit for the last game if he’s not going to be here next season. Imagine having played for Liverpool, but never in front of our fans. A bittersweet experience for him.
I’m surprised we’re not taking the option to buy him, he impressed me in most of the games he played. Seemed to be very good with the ball at his feet and confident and good enough to take it forwards from defense as well. Seemed a pretty cheap deal for a young, good CB. I’d rather have him than Matip as I expect he’d be available more often and would continue to improve. Would also prefer him to Phillips as he definately doesn’t look confident with the ball at his feet, although he is immense in the air!
Still, Klopp and his staff know a lot more than me so I assume they know what they are doing.
Is Davies trusted at all? I don’t really understand his signing - has he been bought just to sell on for profit? Surely he can’t be one of our CB group next season if he can’t get time ahead of Williams, Phillips and (an apparently unwanted) Kabak?
Will be very disappointed if we don’t at least make one CB signing and - unless Virg and Joe are certs to come back strong in time for August - really thiink we need to two.
