Ozan KABAK: 2020/21

Said in the post match thread I thought he was the best center half on show vs Leipzig.

Looks quick enough to me. Very strong too. Should probably keep playing until we see anything thay suggests otherwise.

Yeah I thought he was much better tonight, seemed to be on the same page he even did a Matip at one point and went forward.

Definotely looked better after a couple more training sessions with the group!
Still raw on the defensive stuff, some rash tackles, not great in the air and miss placed long balls but technically pretty good. A risky loan as heā€™s only 20 and has a lot to learn however the loan will allow us to assess him correctly/properly. It will be interesting to discuss all this at the end of the season particularly when we know if he will be staying or not.
Btw thatā€™s from just seeing the 2nd half.

Finally watched the full game, thought Ozan had overall a good game. He seemed to read the game well and made some good interceptions/challenges

Good performance from him. He does look a tad slower than expected, but Iā€™d expect that to improve as his fitness improves. Defending for Schalke would have been backs to the wall, row Z type defending for the most part, given their position in the table.

Heā€™s obviously performing well enough in training to have pipped Rhys and Nat at CB, and Iā€™m expecting him to settle in and become a regular for the rest of the season at least.

much more assured performance from him. I thought while he is not as fast as Gomez, he showed better anticipation to snuff out dangers.

Not sure why people are saying he is slow? I am not saying he is quick but in the two matches that heā€™s played personally havenā€™t seen him isolated where he has to really sprint to catch up to someone and is found wanting. Has that happened? Genuinely canā€™t remember it so if it has please point out.

In the absence of that I personally wait to see when he does have to put the burners on to make it up and then decide.

That was more like it. He played well, did the basics first and his anticipation looked better that at the weekend. I like defenders who get the ā€œdefendingā€ done first then worry about the more technical stuff. Lovren was always reactionary rather then being clever enough to anticipate where the danger was coming from, always thrashing around putting fires out with a shovel where a bit of composure and better reading of the game would have seen him make less errors and last ditch tackles. I have to remind myself that Kabak is 20yrs old too.

What constitutes an aerial duel as for me he won a lot more headers than 1?

Not gonna lie to you Iā€™m wrong person to ask!

Fair enough, just seems a low number from what I watched, maybe his reading/anticipation stopped it becoming a ā€˜duelā€™

Yeah not all headers count as a duel and from my limited understanding not all stat collection sites will use same definition of a duel.

The first Turkish player to play for a english club in the champions league.

Simply not good enough. Glad we only have him on loan. Never going to pay 18M for him in the summer.

Given what I have seen, I would prefer to give more game time to Phillips.

Absolutely. A band aid on a gaping wound. He was the polar opposite of the player we saw midweek. Ballwatching for the first goal, and he shits his pants against the Richarlison in the lead up to the poxy penalty.

Was he shit against Everton or what?

He was all over the place. Ballwatching on the first goal, had the time and space to easily close Richarlison down in the run up to the ā€œpenaltyā€ and shit his pants and backs away into nothing.
The wind made balls in the air tough to deal with yet Philips managed.

The main indicator that the club didnā€™t particularly rate him was that they managed to refuse Schalke an obligatory buy-out clause. I donā€™t think he was that bad overall since he joined Liverpool but I think heā€™ll be a very good signing for some other club in the future, just not Liverpool. Wrong place, wrong time, I think itā€™s as simple as that.

Yup I agree, sticking plaster at the moment, he might get better but he wonā€™t be enough for us.
