Oh Flobsey
The guy is a kid in terms of age and in terms of the Premier League but I really hope we donāt keep him from what I have seen. That could all change over the next few weeks mind.
He just doesnāt see danger and thatās the first part of defender. He doesnāt track anyone and he will literally let the forward run by him because he is caught ball watching all the time.
Hyppia and Henchoz had zero pace but could read a game and lack of pace wasnāt an issue but this lad so far cant read or foresee a dangerous situation.
His mindset is still stuck in the moon boots pace of the Bundesligaā¦
Whether that can be improved or not, as you mention, jury is still out.!
Even though Iāve been very critical of him as his positioning, anticipation and understanding of keeping a line is extremely poor these are all things that can either be learnt or come with experience. Technically he is good (with confidence could be very good) so whether he is bought or not is a coaching decission imo seems like Klopp likes him so heās half way there to being accepted.
Iām not really impressed with this lad. But Klopp rarely listens to me these days. I think Klopp will play him in as many games possible just to see whatās the best Kabak can offer.
I might be wrong, but I donāt think the lad has what it takes to be a part of an ambitious and adventurous team like Liverpool.
On the tactical side heās definitely behind on the learning curve, Williams is better.
Kabak is not very exciting,at this rate loan then off you go.
What worries me is ,injury excepted,is Davies better?
Not sure we are going to see
Really? when Williams gets caught he goes to ground, at least Kabak got back and saw out the danger.
Williams needs to learn that, he is miles behind and not good enough til he does, I donāt think Kabak is but Iām sorry thatās nonsense.
What are you on about, did you, do you understand what the tactical side is?
Iād say Reading the game and knowing when to dive in comes under the tactical side so there wasnāt any need to respond to him like that.
What with a question?
Is he 5?
or are you his mother?
EDIT: His example was lack of reading of the game.
I feel thereās a little injustice tonight in that Kabak was probably the more tactically sound, technically accomplished and disciplined CB but the commentators just made such a fuss over Phillips and his bull in a China shop impression Kabak kind of flew under the radar. He was excellent tonight.
If you are a defender and your hardly noticeable against a team that had a fair bit of attacking then you are doing well, I thought he was the better of the two, wasnāt caught out from what I remember and his passes up field seemed to reach their target.
I think it was his most assured performance.
Instead of comparing Kabak to Virgil
We should compare him to Carragherā¦ not much in it.!
I thought that was his best game for us. Nothing flashy just competent defensive play throughout. Good on the ball and showed decent recovery pace when Gibbs White (I think) was through on goal in the second half. Having a settled CB partnership is going to help him and us.
Two regular CB, Fabinho shielding the backline, whatās this, Christmas???
Really not getting enough attention, doing an amazing job.
New league. New team. Having to play LCB instead of RCB. Heās naturally the proactive, aggressive, CB but heās having to play as the disciplined āsweeperā cleaning things up. Having to be the āexperiencedā leader of the back line. No preseason.
Heās 20.
And for all the hype and over the top praise for Phillips for everything Nat is doing right Heās doing just as much to put pressure on his partner.
Nat is a limited player playing above himself so getting a lot of praise for every little thing he does but Kabak isnāt getting anywhere near the attention for doing a much better job under far more challenging circumstances.
Yes Fabinho hoovering everything up in front of the CBs is making a massive difference.
While I certainly agree with your praise of Kabak, I think youāre being harsh on Phillips. Heās hardly put a foot wrong in the games heās played.
His one weakness, lack of pace, has to my memory only been exposed once. Apart from that one instance heās managed every situation perfectly well. And as a central defender that is what you need to do. Manage every situation and ensure that your weaknesses are not exposed. So far heās pretty much done that.
What I do find interesting between Kabak and Phillips is that you have Phillips who is simply dominating everything that comes at him, while Kabak is going about his business quietly and assuredly around him. Thereās a quiet meshing of styles going on here I think.
