Post match: Brighton v Liverpool (EPL 19/5/25 8pm)

Look it’s totally our fault we could have won the league with 75 points. Should have just packed it in after our 32nd game, which was the 2-1 over West Ham. Gone on holiday like the shite champions we are.

This week I shall mostly be singing the 1996 Eurodance hit “Freed from Desire” by Italian singer songwriter Gala:

Had it stuck in my head all day and hotly anticipating a full Anfield rendition on Sunday.

i had an opinion which i think is valid

@mascot comes in and starts kicking heads around …its not enough to disagree with us and be civilised, i have to ‘do one’, apparently im a banter fan and can get fucked…then suggests going on holiday and not trying our best in a game of football is a brilliant thing we can bring to the negotiation table with Wirtz

i genuinely cant be bothered anymore

Ok, we can all differ on a “professional” approach to the end of the season. We can all differ about TAA and whether the boos are correct or incorrect…

But seriously? This Mascot?
You think thats an actual thing?
Its a football club playing at a top level…not playschool.

I get the whole wind down to the season attitude the league is won, its partytime etc etc.

But, I would personally prefer a more professional approach to the games post Spurs. Not saying the peripheral players shouldn’t have a chance or whatever, but the habit of winning should be kept to the forefront. We have switched off.
Pity we didn’t beat PSG.
We would be in the CL final. Villa or Arsenal wouldn’t have beaten us.
We would be focussed till end of season if we were there.

No you don’t get the all wind down aspect. Nobody who hasn’t played professional sport to a very high level can. The players since August have been focused on achieving the ultimate success thats happened. They have climbed that mountain reached the summit and planted the flag. You then want them to carry on for another 4 games climbing a mountain again.

A lot of players have been upset by reaction to Trent.

I’m genuine staggered by the fall out in this thread.

Snowflakes getting upset because I said accusations of lack of professionalism can do one? Jesus Christ.

One of you tell me which is the more professional attitude.

  1. Going all out to win the four remaining games so we can get 90 points, which means running players who have already given their all, telling fringe lads they aren’t getting a go, risking injuries and disrupting pre-season, and cutting short celebrations. For no additional benefit as far as I can see. The potential upside is that Arsenal fans will find it harder to banter us online.

  2. Treat the remaining fixtures as semi-dead rubbers, and protect the fitness of lads who are already probably in the red, focus on having the squad in the best shape for next season as possible and give some of the fringe lads opportunities to impress or put themselves in the shop window. And allow the lads time to celebrate together and spend time bonding because when do they get ever get chance?

You think it isn’t?

You think when Richard Hughes is sitting down with a player to pitch Liverpool he isn’t talking about the culture? You think he isn’t saying look at this club? Look at the celebrations. Can you imagine being part of that? Look how much this means to the fans and the players. And look at the players. Look at how together they are. Look at them in Dubai. Do you want to be part of this group? And look at how we take care of them. Look how great it is to play Liverpool. And look at how much fun it is to work here.

He’d be a fucking idiot not to.

If any company looked as great to work for as Liverpool have this last couple of weeks, then it would be all over their recruitment promo.

No.
I don’t.
He doesn’t need to.

He isn’t selling a playground. He’s negotiating with a top player and his representatives. He doesn’t need a slide show of holiday pics from Dubai to do that.

Unless you played professional sport at that high level, then you don’t either.
Which makes this about our views differing rather than either of us fully understanding.

I don’t want them flogging a dead horse for four games. But a tiny bit extra and we could have won the last two matches. Without killing themselves.

He is selling a culture. He is selling a club where if you play for us you have a fucking great time every day you come to work. Where you get to be part of a really tight knit group of players who all clearly love being around each other, and where celebration is a huge part of success.

If he isn’t using this stuff in a pitch, if he isn’t taking the last few weeks of celebration and including them in the recruitment, then frankly he should be sacked. It’s an absolute gift to a SD

Ok
He should pitch the Dubai party as a selling point for LFC.
What else?
Free car parking?
Gym membership at the AXA?
Oh yes, we have a lovely coffee dock…

I’m not suggesting he is trying to sell a work trip to Dubai as if it’s a bike loan scheme or parental care days.

I’m saying when Richard Hughes is pitching the club to players, selling the culture at LFC is part of that. That trip to Dubai shows our culture - it shows a bunch of lads who fucking love being at Liverpool. It shows how the club reward and celebrate success. And it shows how we treat them - players who get very little downtime and respite - on a human level.

Do you think Richard Hughes is there to put a number in front of a player and leave it at that?

And these are supposedly Liverpool fans on the BBC

Liverpool fans

Ian: I know we wrapped up the league two weeks ago, but this is getting embarrassing. Slot should realise people pay their hard-earned cash to watch games. We should be sending a message to the other teams by putting out the strongest team and beating these sides. I just hope the performance on Sunday is a much-improved one. I don’t want it to spoil the celebrations with another defeat.

Wayne: Below-par performance yet again, this is the worst team to have won the Premier League title. I would be very surprised if we even qualify for the Champions League next season.

Shaun: Going off that game, we need seven or eight new players for next season. The back-up boys just aren’t good enough. The past few games Harvey Elliott has played he has gone backwards, the same with Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah. Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate also had mares.

Ian, Shaun and Wayne must have been really badly bantered by Arsenal fans. Our thoughts must be with them.

Because its one or the other?
I think Hughes job is to negotiate a deal and whatever extras are required to seal the deal.
I really don’t believe he has to sell the spirit of the club.

its not a binary choice, telling people they need to choose between the only two choices that you have deemed reasonable isnt really fair play

there’s a very good case to be made for continuing as thought the league is a 38 game competition and treating the opposition with the respect it deserves, i’m sure the conditioning coaches would be ensuring the players continue their regimes, but even a small drop off in intensity and then playing a premier league game would enhance the likelyhood of an injury, not lessen it.

i’m sure the players aren’t in the red zone, that’s a very intense zone and we haven’t been playing enough fixtures for that to be the case

from a mindset POV im sure the players are enjoying the moment, but as much as you suggest its a great culture and selling point, for every player that loves the idea of getting over the line then switching off, there’d be more who’d be sold on an ethic of the pursuit of excellence…having played at an albeit hell of a lot lower level, but having won leagues, theres something really special about playing as a confirmed champion, i think in hindsight being in and around the club, winning the last few games and interacting with each other on the field would harbour more (in the long term) positive memories than a bender and a few weeks of lower intensity.

so yes, i personally think its a shame we will end up with 83-86 points, not because some fan from a rival club might tease me…but because of the niggling doubt it might cause this time next season if we are in a run in…because theres a pride in a points total…because theres a competition to be played…because theres a liverbird on their chest…

i think Slot and club have played it wrong, im not that bothered, i just think its worthy of comment.

on a different note, i hope you are you OK? your posting style is getting more and more aggressive and condescending…like a throwback from going toe to toe with Klopptomist so many times it feels like its framed the way you debate on here.

Hughes - “…and then to round off talks, I told him we even get the last month of the season off after walking the league with an all in inclusive away in Dubai and he was like where the fuck do I sign”
