VAR most certainly did not work in our favour yesterday.
Marriner made a clear and obvius mistake in not seeing the foul on Salah and Lookman should have been sent off. I’ve seen those tackles result in a red card this season after VAR has told the ref to look at the monitor.
Mason on VAR. Enough said.
Given what has transpired these last few years, it is difficult sometimes to come to grips with the fact that they are only human.
The athlete’s brain is a funny thing…we should have twatted 'em yesterday and been two points clear, but here we are. The guru who does one day unlock the secrets between the brain and performance will end up a billionaire…
Until then, we will have to content ourselves with clenched arse cheeks for the next little bit…
Heard an interestingly little stat yesterday. No team has won away from home since fans let back in?
I posted it last night changed when Burnley beat Arsenal.
First half was as bad as the Villa game and we should have been out of it by half time. Alisson saved our arses there. We were better second half. The Henderson miss was a big moment. Score then and there’s only one winner. Real shame the Jones shot didn’t go in but in the end a draw’s about right.
I’m expecting these up and down performances this season. No team has been completely consistent. Too many games in too short a time and we’ve also been decimated with injuries. We’re still joint top so I’m not shitting my pants just yet. We’re doing OK. Long way to go.
I wasn’t happy about the midweek team selection and think JK dropped a major bollock there so no sympathy from me anymore about tight schedules or player fatigue. We’ve brought some of those problems on ourselves. Just got to get on with it now and hope our luck changes on the injury front.
Where’s the Spurs game thread???
Since the restart of football, after the first lockdown, our form has been quite inconsistent and I think the statistics will back me up on this. We have been brilliant in some games and then inexplicably, the next game, our form falls off a cliff. I think it’s a combination of horrendous injuries, lack of atmosphere in stadiums and certain amount of complacency when playing lesser opposition.
Genuinely puzzled as to how people think we got “lucky” with VAR. Fact is Fulhams goal should not have stood. Bit like United last sesson, foul in the build up ignored. Salah was theatrically going down, but its a foul nonetheless. How was that decision lucky?
Our pen? Its handball. Simple.
Their shout? Fabinho takes thd ball. I thought the Fulham player tripped hinself from a couple of the angles. If it was even 40%chance of a pen then Mason would have given it.
Poor performance. Move on to Wednesday.
If var spotted the foul on Mo its a 1-0 win to Liverpool .
We got as much as we deserved from that game. A horrible , horrible match to watch. This season is fast becoming a chore. Another gruelling run of fixtures now awaits , and it’s probably just a question of who is the next to get injured.
I guess with “intensity being our identity” this season’s spate of injuries, together with the high number of games have affected us somewhat more than expected. Here’s hoping our injury luck will change in the next few weeks. And my deepest condolences to Gerard Houllier’s family for their loss. YNWA.
Poor first half, second half was better. It feels difficult to judge this season with injuries continuing to mount up.
I think if you flip the starts so 60 mins good and 30 mins bad then we probably win.
I said one in, one out with injuries would be fine but it’s 2 in 4 out, we really are at the barest of bones now.
We could do with some positives on Matip and Milner and Keita… I think the only other possible return before the new year is Shaq but again who knows. The ones with clear diagnosis seem to return on time.
Yep! I’m not judging our performances like i did last year. For Klopp it must be like trying to entertain with a juggling act with only one ball in his hands. I have no complaints over his selections for Midgetland or Fulham. Of course I am dissappointed with our performace against Fulham, we were woeful in the 1st half. For me we are probably over compensating with our tactics. We have to stop playing from so deep which forces us to play those rediculous longballs to Salah which really is a was of time due to how Salah plays.
Salah always backs into the defender and any half decent defender knows how to deal with that, Mané offers more in those circumstances however for that tactic to work more consistently we need a striker that we haven’t got on our books.
Seeing Hendo and Fabs as CB parteners was a shock thankfully they didn’t have much defending to do.
These next few months are going to be very difficult imo and we need to be patient.
Seen replay of lookmans foul on neco…Red!!! But no coz the foul was on a LFC player…I don’t even think var looked at it…
Congrats, just my perceptions
Few things.
- We played crap
- Even though we played crap, we should have won 1-0.
- Our peno was a peno by the letter of the law.
- Their goal should have been disallowed. Mo was clearly shoved in the back. The fact the ref chose to ignore the shove, sorry I mean missed it, was a clear and obvious error that VAR should have reviewed. Especially considering the VAR review of their possible peno.
- It’s not luck that we have a world class goalie who pulls off some good saves. That’s what he’s there for. So we weren’t lucky. Last I heard the goalie is there to stop goals.
- No one gets points for effort, running around more and having more shots on goals.
- That was a shocker of a tackle. Should have been a red and it could have done another player of our’s in for a few weeks.
- Playing crap doesn’t mean everyone was tired. Sometimes it happens. Our poor passing helped them no end.
- Stop being brainwashed by the media. I don’t want to hear ‘we were lucky’ if the goalie makes some fine saves. It is skill not luck. ‘VAR worked for us’ when correct decisions are made we shouldn’t be grateful or surprised. It’s what should be expected.
surely thats ‘all on Klopp’ for playing him when he had other options?
Another thing. All football teams are super fit.
It’s easier and requires less skill to run around like a lunatic and put in tackles that are hard, borderline and sometimes blatent fouls in on the other team that is trying to play.
The ref’s allow this.
It’s harder for the team that plays football to pass the other team to death as a tactic to tire them out. This means most of the team has to be on their game.
So normally, the first halves are more cagey affairs due to the level playing field. Liverpool normally pass, pass and pass some more, probing for an opportunity. 2nd half the other team tires LFC take advantage.
This is easier when you don’t a ton of injuries, a few of the injuries caused to your top players due to assault, the ref levelling the playing field or forgetting the rules.
Origi is done. Minamino won’t make it here.
