Liverpool recorded a 92% pass completion in Arne Slot’s first game in charge at Anfield, their highest recorded amount since records began over 20 years ago
A lot to chew on about this game, tactically.
Knew Brentford would pose tactical questions, but the way we looked to solve this was at times simply deliciosos…
Mo Salah became the outright top Premier League goalscorer against Brentford, netting his sixth goal against the Bees in the league. The Egyptian has been directly involved in 128 goals in 128 league appearances at Anfield for Liverpool (93 goals, 35 assists).
I was generally impressed by that. Slot seems to be bringing out the best in some players.
Díaz is a case in point. I think he is our most gifted dribbler, but he has often been a headless chicken. He now seems far more direct and a real threat on the counter.
So far, so good. Off to the theatre of no drains next.
Was a bit disappointed with Szobo not releasing the ball on some attacking moves, but could also be part of the game model, as you saw same thing happen when Elliott came on…
Last season if we’d had an indifferent first half we’d have gone behind and had to claw our way back into the game - we usually did tbf. That hasn’t happened in our first two matches; no goals conceded at all after really good second halves. We are controlling and dominating the play overall with a much more deliberate tempo. More of the same at the toilet please
