Post match: Liverpool v Leverkusen (UCL 5/11/24 8pm)

I came to share my thoughts on the match last night, having been at Anfield also (Anni road end), but don’t need to bother as you’ve taken away the same as me.

Couple of small things to mention - Kelleher’s positioning for the double save was excellent, and the relentless fireworks (all night) were a bit of fun. From what I understand, it came through on the telly.

Top night. Looking forward to being back for the Real Madrid tie.

Diaz had to time his run right and I think that’s what did it. Same with Gakpo.

I just think we were more fluent second half.

Just a reminder that this stretch of seven games - Chelsea, Leipzig, Arse, Brighton, Brighton, Leverkusen, Villa - was said by many to be a true measure of our improvement under Slot and whether we’d actually compete this season or not.

We’re at five wins and a draw so far with Villa to come on the weekend. Fuck the haters.

I think the right time to judge this Liverpool Team is when they’ve played Brazil 1970.

I think the right time to judge this Liverpool side is when they’ve played Arsenal and City combined 11 v 22.

I think the right time to judge the Liverpool side is when they’ve played a top team, except Liverpool have all had their shoelaces tied together and aren’t allowed a keeper.

We mostly don’t play with one though? We play with a striker between the sticks…

Yes but when are the tests coming :man_shrugging:

The first 2 were fun but now you’re just being ridiculous.

Dunno. Jones found a huge pocket in front of a retreating defense and a midfield that was essentially behind him.

They were far tighter in the first half.

I missed that too , although they were singing his name at the end.

The first one was funny. Then we got into diminishing returns.

Mind you, some comedians have made careers doing that.

We didn’t get into our seats until 15 mins before KO so missed the initial reception for him during the warm up, but his name was sung out towards the end of the game after Arne Slots name was sung. Not sure if that came through the audio on telly.

I don’t get this Bayer were dangerous in the first half take. Granted they knocked ball around but created absolutely nothing it got to the 60 minute mark and they had 1 shot on target.

Much more relaxed we can stroll our way to 3 points. Our defensive structure is as the stats would suggest it is, the best in Europe. Fewest goals conceded, fewest xG against.

We made Milan, Leipzig and now Leverkusen look leagues below us, Bologna have given us our toughest game in the CL.

I thought if I did ten, then it would start off funny, get less funny, then get actively irritating, then the repetition would start to get funny again, then the sheer audacity would make it hilarious by the end.

Yes, I like Stewart Lee.
