Some observations:

  • If Bradley played R. Madrid every week, he would be the best RB in the world.
  • We look a lot more functional and balanced with Robertson.
  • Konate was generally good, but there were a few clearances where he looked like that was the first time he had ever kicked a ball.
  • Mac Allister being back to his usual self is making a big difference. He needs a new contract.
  • Szoboszlai is a fucking machine. His fitness levels are unreal.
  • Wirtz was excellent in the first half but faded in the second. He still isn’t as fit as he should be.
  • Salah started poorly but improved exponentially as the game wore on. He was torturing Carreras in the last 20 minutes.
  • Someone needs to make a voodoo doll of Courtois. The fucker turns into Lev Yashin every time we face them.
  • We are finally doing the basics right.
  • Slot was spot on when he said that we need to make sure that we can win against any style we come across. Villa and Madrid tried to play football. This won’t always be the case.
  • Keep it up, beat the cheating manc bastards.

Good win and hopefully we carry this into the league as well.

Not too confident of a positive result against City but we desperately do need the win.

Yeah I couldn’t believe how that decision went either. I watched that bit with the sound off while on a work call (the joys of not watching live from Australia) so I didn’t hear the commentary but couldn’t understand how we didn’t get the corner if it wasn’t a free kick or penno.

Because …Any actions that occurred after the original decision is overturned are erased so play is deemed to end at the handball. I agree seems a bit harsh but that appears to be the VAR protocol.

Really. Whereas my feeling is Citeh will be forced to reappraise what they thought we would turn up like. We’re in much better shape than we were 10-days ago. Just got to keep an eye on Haaland, if thats possible, he looked savage last match they played.

We’ve handled Beluga before. Don’t see why it should be different this time.

What a difference in these last four or five days we are seeing from the form we have had for the previous month. They have really proved the point of the saying that it’s a funny old game. I honestly thought that there was a problem in the dressing room and Slott and the players were at loggerheads with each other. Every one of the players gave a 100% tonight to give one of the best teams in the world a real beating. I was one of the people who thought we had had the best of Robbo and he was in a decline. The last two games have proved a few of us wrong. Well done to all of the lads because if their keeper wasn’t one of the best in the world it could have been three or four.

It was really good to see how we kept our defensive discipline, moments in the game where we let Madrid have the ball while we kept our mid block with 10 behind the ball, nice and tight, no room for them to get in behind. Besides the half chance Jude had from the narrow ankle when he went past Ibou, they had nada. Mixing this up with the high press when it was on (Dom, Eki, Flo) all instrumental, they didn’t have any answers for either, got frustrated, then resorted to kicking our players or falling to ground holding their faces.

I have not been quite as critical, but I will freely admit that that Vinicius v. Bradley match-up was my number one concern before the match. Vinicius has torn apart just about every elite fullback he has faced at some point or another, and him being a little too much for a younger player like Bradley to handle would have been no surprise. I was actually wondering what Slot planned to provide defensive help that wasn’t going to leave a huge gap for Mbappe. I did not see that defensive hammer coming down as even an unlikely favourable outcome, best I was hoping for was damage limitation. I think Connor actually got into his head, an astonishing performance.

That is really quite hilarious coming from a Real fan

Surely it’s safer to hang on hubcaps.

The day after, yep, feels good!

I wonder if Wirtz on the left might be the thing for now? The stat above showed how hard he worked with his running, and as he continues to find his groove he will link up with the others to even better effect, and put goals on a plate for them.

It also enables us to have a midfield three of Grav, Macca and Szobo (Jones will factor into this based on form and fitness) and this looks a bit more solid.

Exactly this.
Sitting in the main stand (btw fantastic atmosphere and we were excellent!) and with no slow motion to look at we were all expecting to see the penalty. Especially after my mate whatsap’d me to say it was in the box. Really demoralising to see we didn’t even get a corner… really thought the refs were blind and out to fuck us at that moment

I’ve had it explained a few times that the protocol dictates that the game has to restart with a drop ball. Which is absolutely batshit.

If VAR don’t intervene we get a free kick. If the ref doesn’t blow, it’s a corner. But because the referee stops it, and VAR interfene, it ends up with a drop ball for Madrid? WTF?
