Post match: Liverpool v Sunderland (EPL 3/12/25 8.15pm)

Except the goal came from an uncontested shot where the Sunderland player was allowed to walk and walk by Van Dijk, who is backing away into the box instead of pressing.

I don’t understand why Slot is saying this. That kind of shot, sometimes they go in. He was allowed to go deep with the ball before he shot (it was absolutely a chance !)

I am getting tired of the spin really.

It’s a goal provoked by our passive defence. It’s a Sunderland player strolling forth with all the time in the world before he shoots .That is a chance with such a set up. Conditions ripe for it to go in (yes ,after bouncing off Van Dijk), after all.

Gave Chiesa MOTM for coming off the bench and saving us a point. Also voted for Joe for wiping out the lad in front of the Main Stand.

We were slow, ponderous, predictable and easy to defend against like we have been for the past 9 months. But some seem happy with that because we didn’t get bummed by 3 goals again.
Forest, PSV and Sunderland have all come to Anfield in the last 2 weeks and handled us with ease.
We are no closer to being able to overcome a low block or know how to integrate a CF into the team. Isak’s performance tonight was fucking pathetic and made Nunez’s worst look like prime Van Basten.
Quite frankly we are a poor football team and have been for a long time. If FSG aren’t scoping out a replacement for Slot then it’s negligence at this point.

I think they are. I do think they hope that this will pass and that Slot will now, extremely soon, turn around he ship (which seems more and more like an oil tanker and less and less like a manoeuvrable ship), but I am sure that they have out feelers by now.
It would be remarkably incompetent if this was not the case. And I don’t think the club is that.

At this rate Chiesa’s on hand to win another player of the month, despite playing less minutes than he did to win his last one. Remarkable stuff Jeff.

Chiesa did more in that one passage of play than Isak did in 86 fucking minutes. Fucking Sean Dundee levels of CF play.
To leave Ekiteke on the bench for 75 minutes was scandalous.

Poor team or poorly coached team?

We have too many players walking around hiding behind opposition players not wanting the ball. It’s shameful at times. They are not enjoying it and don’t want to play, except Chiesa who can not get a game.
It’s all too slow which makes it a real challenge mentally for the players. The only one who seems naturally that slow is Gravenberch. Isak doesn’t look like he can play at the pace we do atm.

If he came out and lied we’d be even more annoyed. His honesty post was something we praised last season, don’t see why we’d shit in him for it this season. Much prefer an honest and straightforward answer to they typical bullshit managers spew

Positive is that we salvaged something after yet again conceding the first goal. We tried to be more conservative, and it worked in that Sunderland created very few good chances. THe opening goal came from a mistake by VVD and then a lucky deflection.

NIce play by Curtis and Wirtz in the equalizing goal, which also included an element of luck.

Ref was a mixed bag. Tried to let play go on, but then bought a few of SUnderland’s embellished dives (basically they used any contact well to buy a free kick).

24th min (i think), ball passed to Grav, who swivels, and takes two Sunderland players out of the game. Is then tripped. Ref has his back turned so gives only a free kick and no yellow. IN a game where the oppostion is congesting the midfield, a situation like this is an obvious yellow,

So a work in progress. Leeds, Inter and Brighton up next. Slot needs to rotate.

I didn’t like how every time one of their players went down, he’d clutch his head, even if he’d been tripped, or, on one occasion had the ball blasted at his thigh.
Obviously trying to force a concussion stoppage, but cynical and maybe even dangerous.
Is this a new thing? I haven’t noticed it before, at least not to that extent.

I think Isak had 1 touch the whole second half. We play too slow and side to side. We have no one in the central midfield who can play a creative pass behind the defense. We just play slow, side to side and now Isak is covered by both central defenders. We also don’t have any wingers who can beat their man 1v1….we let Diaz go for a 1 trick pony who cuts in every move and doesn’t pass to his overlapping defense player. Mo has clearly lost a step and not having Trent behind him is clearly showing.

Agree with that! After Rodgers always saying we were outstanding when we were shit,it is a breath of fresh air.

It goes on all the time. The only time it doesn’t work is if it’s Oliver and you don’t play for his favoured side, in this case you can be more or less decapitated rather than stop the game.

Have to admit that I was struggling to stay awake at times last night. More to do with my 5:00 starts than anything else.

I feel like we are in the process of turning the supertanker at the moment. I was pleased that we kept it at 0:0 at half time, but the Sunderland goal was just a brain fart from Virg.

Happy to see the Wirtz goal. I know it was given as an OG, but half the goals you see rely on a fortunate bounce, deflection or whatever.

In the first half, I thought we were trying to play a 3-5-2 with Robbo as a wingback. I’m not sure whether that was intentional or just him going further up field.

Another who’s crossing was off point.

Watched a video today and someone mentioned apart from Szob who of our players are actually playing near their normal level???

Even Szob was poor last night. The number of aimless crosses he threw over was a throwback to ‘peak’ Hendo.

Get we get this sorted? I’m saying the same thing over and over again, and no fucker is listening. This must be how Slot feels.

There are a few lads putting a more positive spin on the game tonight, and not a single one of them is saying you should be happy with a point at home against Sunderland.

Form is like an oil tanker, and it takes time to turn it round - you can’t click your fingers and find yourself suddenly going in the opposition direction.

The issue is that City, Forest and PSV was ten goals conceded, two scored and zero points. And we looked in genuine relegation form. That had to stop first.

The last two games have been an improvement on that. Getting a win and a draw is objectively better than three straight losses

But more than that we’ve looked a bit more resilient, able to cope with pressure and less likely to concede early and capitulate.

We need to go up another notch against Leeds, who will be better than West Ham but as good as Sunderland.

We need to playing consistently better than the last two performances, but it’s a start.

He was poor, but we can give him a pass as he’s been trying to do everything on his own for 2 months. Could really do with a rest but we can’t afford to rest him
